2015 Releases I Didn’t Get To in 2015 // Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. We’d love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

It’s no secret that I  am terrible at getting around to current releases. I am absolutely horrible at reading books the year that they are published, and this week’s topic, for me, is overflowing with books which makes it very difficult to pick only ten which I unfortunately didn’t get around to purchasing or reading in the year of 2015. But without further delay, I have picked the top ten books I unfortunately didn’t get to in 2015.

Let’s go.

1. The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

25909686

After reading and loving The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, I was very excited to see he was coming up with a new series, starting with The Sword of Summer. I kept saying I would get to it as soon as possible, however, I never got the chance!

2. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

23734628

After reading Fangirl, I was eagerly anticipating the release of Carry On. However, when it was finally released, I somehow never got to it! It’s great that my best friend bought me a copy while she was over in Sydney, so I can finally read it this year.

3. Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

23719270

I desperately wanted to read this book last year, because so many people were giving amazing feedback towards it. All I heard was bloggers yelling to the world that this book was fantastic. I hope I can get around to it now, in 2016.

4. The Copper Gauntlet by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

13612962

I read The Iron Trial last year and was very intrigued to see what would happen next and when I found out the sequel: The Copper Gauntlet was coming out in 2015, I was excited. However, when it finally came out, I never got around to purchasing it.

5. The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

24723317

Another book that I wanted to get to because people were screeching praises all over the blogosphere about this book. I was also looking forward to reading this one last year because I had just discovered Patrick Ness after his incredible standalone novel: A Monster Calls

6. Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman

Legacy of Kings (Blood of Gods and Royals, #1)

I was very interested in this one for it’s premise and lots of people began talking about this one last year. I was sure that I would get around the reading it, and even requested an ARC, however, I eventually never got around to it and wasn’t approved for an ARC.

7. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

23437156

I feel left out. Everyone has been singing their love for this book since it came out last year and I’ve been shrinking deeper and deeper into my isolated hole of reading loneliness (did that sentence even make sense? Possibly not). I promise to get to it this year though.

8. Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry

23492282

Click here to go to the Goodreads page

I purchased this book – I don’t know why – in 2015 on my Kindle but never got around to reading it. I will probably read it this year, because I’ve seen some feedback on this book and would like to see for myself what it’s like. I enjoyed Pushing The Limits so hopefully this is just as good.

9. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

20560137

This came out early 2015, and I feel very sad that I am still not part of this hype train. There’s not much more that I can say, but the fact that this is in my TTT proves how bad I am at reading and keeping up with the releases.

10. Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

19547856

Ah, more proof that I am horrible at keeping up with releases.  However, I plan to read this book sometime very soon (hopefully), so don’t freak out! It will be read by me this year!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! I could have added so many more, and if you look at my list of Goodreads books to-read, you’ll see how many I’ve missed out on from last year.

What 2015 books did you not get to in 2015?

  1. Yo, but for real, I’m finding myself quoting so many things from Six of Crows in everything else I blog/read. Doooo it. But on more important matters, I’m still unsure if I’d say The Rest of Us is a good follow-up to A Monster Calls unless you think you’d appreciate plotless storytelling LOL. Otherwise, More Than This might be a better bet…?

    1. Oh dude, trust me, I’ll be diving into Six of Crows as soon as I can. I’m twitchy just knowing I haven’t read it yet!
Hmm, well I’m currently in the process of reading the Chaos Walking Trilogy still, so after that, maybe I’ll read More Than This?

  2. YES JOSIE READ MAGNUS AND CARRY ON! I really need to read The Rest of Us Just Live Here too and I completely feel you at The Copper Gauntlet. I was really looking forward to it’s release but then I never even bought it? 😂 I really don’t understand my brain sometimes. I just read Simon and it was a really fun and adorable read 🙂

  3. I haven’t read Magnus, Legacy of Kings, Carry On, or Nowhere But Here either! They’re all on my TBR though. Also, you must read EMBERRRR. It’s great!

    1. Yep, they’re all on my TBR for this year also! And Ember is definitely on my list!

  4. Josie Josie Josie. Six of Crows, Carry On, Simon vs…get to it! Chop chop! The Sword of Summer is one that I really want to get to ASAP as well!! I’m not too mad that I didn’t get around to reading it in 2015 because i wanted to read PJO and HoO first. But I’m hoping to catch up on Magnus Chase before the sequel comes out. I also didn’t get around to buying and reading The Copper Gauntlet. I even went to the launch event that Cassie and Holly were at. But the cover and size of the book didn’t match the first one so I never ended up buying it…

    1. I know, I know, I’m a disgrace at the moment!
I still haven’t read the Percy Jackson series so I suppose that’s what I want to work on too, before I also move on the Magnus Chase.
Oh I heard about the cover size and such not matching, I think that’s a reason I ended up forgetting about it!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Ooh you’ll be able to fly through the Percy Jackson series! The books are much shorter than the ones in the Heroes of Olympus! I’m planning to marathon Heroes of Olympus soon. Can’t wait!

I also feel so left out on the Six of Crows hype train, that one along with An Ember in the Ashes made my list too. Simon vs THSA was a great read, I hope you enjoy when you get to it. Super cute! A relatable list!

  7. The Rest of Us Just Live Here is just okay. Don’t expect the brilliance of A Monster Calls is my advice 🙂
I’m thinking of reading An Ember in the Ashes soon so hopefully it lives up to the hype!

    1. Yes, I’ve heard that I shouldn’t expect that much from it. I definitely won’t put my expectations too high! 😊
Hopefully you enjoy it. I really hope that I can also pick it up sometime soon this year.

  9. Wonderful list, Josie! An Ember in the Ashes and Legacy of Kings are pretty high on my list to read one day (I don’t believe in creating monthly/annual TBRs since I never follow through, haha) as well. And Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is such a sweet story. I really do hope you get to it this year. 🙂

  14. Ahh, I feel so left out of the Six of Crows hype, too!! I need to read that book soon. And The Rest of Us just Live Here was on my TBR for last year, too, and I didn’t get enough time to read it. BUT I will change that, because, well, Patrick Ness! 😀 And Simonnn. That book was full of cuteness, you should love it!! 😀

  23. The Sword of Summer was my first read of this year! I didn’t want to put off reading it any longer LOL! I really enjoyed it!! Carry On isn’t Rainbows best book (in my opinion at least) but it’s still a lot of fun and worth a read!
I have had The Rest Of Us Just Live Here on my shelf since like 6 days after it was released and I STILL haven’t read it! I totally plan to this year!!
I was actually so surprised by how much I enjoyed Nowhere But Here, it’s totally not my usual read but I ended up having a blast reading it!!
Six of Crows and Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda are like MUST READS! They both BLEW ME AWAY!!
I feel the exact same about missing out on something awesome by not having read An Ember in the Ashes! If it makes you feels better, I’ve seen it on a tone of lists today (so, YAY! We’re not the last people to have read it!). I’m totally planning on reading it right before the sequel is released!
Great list!!! I hope you get to read all these book this year and love them all!!

    1. Oh, that’s awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed Sword of Summer, I bet it was pretty awesome.
Now The Rest of Us Just Live Here must be your next priority then!
I’m contemplating between reading Harry Potter #2 or Nowhere But Here next.
And I’ll be reading Simon vs. for a read along, hopefully soon!
We should totally start some sort of read along for everyone who still hasn’t read An Ember in the Ashes, because so many of us haven’t!
      Thank you! 😊

Prima from Panda Hearts Books suggested it and now I can’t get the thought out of my head! I’d totally choose HP over Nowhere But Here, just because Harry Potter always wins hahaha!!
