Book Series I Desperately Need To Start Next Year | Top Five Wednesday

Top Five Wednesday is a weekly book meme created and hosted by Lainey @ gingerreadslainey on Youtube. Topics are generated every month, and you can find them on the Goodreads page.

Greetings bookworms and non-bookworms alike, and welcome back to my blog! Wednesday means another round of Top Five Wednesday, and this week, we are discussing the topic of top five book series’ we want to start next year.

Since starting blogging this year, I have been introduced to a world of new books and series, more than I could list in this post! But I am going to do my best to attempt to pick my top five series that I desperately need to read, and that my blogger friends are screaming at me to read.

Let’s go!

1. The Raven Cycle series

Cait @ Paper Fury is the reason for my frantically needing to read this series immediately. That girl is a ravenous fan of Maggie Stiefvater, and so, I am going to try and understand that by starting her very popular series, The Raven Cycle series! I’ve heard so many good things about it, I’m sure it will impress me. Because I mean, LOOK AT THOSE COVERS.

2. The Falling Kingdoms series

Jesse @ Books at Dawn is the source of me desperately wanting to start this series in 2016. In fact, immediately. He goes on about this series like there is no tomorrow, and I don’t blame him. This fantasy series not only has BEAUTIFUL covers *drools*, but also has the best sounding story ever. This series sounds right up my alley and I can’t wait to start this next year!

3. The Winner’s Trilogy

I currently have the first two books in this trilogy and it is about time that I pick them up. There is no more need for me to put them off any longer. I VOW TO START THIS SERIES IN 2016. I want to dive in and experience all the action and political intrigue this series has to offer! (and look at the gorgeousness of those covers!)

4. The Lunar Chronicles

Winter came out this year, and I am sad, but also slightly relieved that I was not anywhere near ready to jump on the hype train with the horde of bookworms who are obsessed with this series. First reason I want to read this series? Everyone is talking about it. Second reason? The series is complete. Third reason? They’re a series of FAIRYTALE RETELLINGS that all come together! Epic, right?! I’m so excited.

5. The Grisha Trilogy

I currently have the first book, Shadow and Bone in my possession. I really want to read this series because I feel like I am missing out. All of my fellow bloggers (aka, you guys)  have read it, and I want to fangirl with you! Also, I want to read this series before jumping on to Six of Crows

There we have it! My top five book series that I really need to start next year. And I promise that I WILL start them next year! Provided I have the money to purchase them all of course… heh.

What book series’ do YOU need and want to start in 2016?

    1. I know! It’s going to be the next series that I buy completely. I need it physically so that I can see it and make myself read it as soon as possible.
Oh yes all three of those series are ones I will definitely get to this year!

  2. […] Read all the book series that I really need to read: what a vague statement! I can explain though. I will not name specific books, because I have, in fact, already done so in my Top Five Wednesday post. […]

  3. I also need to read The Raven Cycle. I’ve seen so many edits on tumblr and those edits are beautiful and make me want to read the series! I also need to read The Winner’s Curse since so many people are raving about it. Great list!

    1. Exactly! I’m a huge tumblr user and I constantly see Raven Cycle references.
The Winners Curse series sounds absolutely fantastic! Thank you Tasya.

  8. The Raven Cycle is a must read. The characters are just so wonderful you can’t help but love them. When it comes to the Lunar Chronicles I must say that the series remains to be my number 1 favourite fairy-tale re-tellings. 2016 is the year I will read The Winner’s Trilogy. The only reason I’ve not read this series yet is because of the heartache and cliffhangers I’m told we’ll have to endure. Thankfully with The Winner’s Kiss coming out soon I can binge read them all in one sitting.
On a completely random note, I can’t help but marvel at how beautiful the covers are. They’re all so mystical and intriguing. 🙂

    1. That’s exactly the reason why I’m making it top priority! I’m so excited for these series.
Oh yes I’ve heard about the heartache and cliffhangers. That’s what gets me excited about it! I’m glad the Winners Kiss is coming out soon. BINGE READING! WOO!

  9. I’ve read the Raven Cycle (it is SO GOOD) but I haven’t read any of the other series! I’m with you–I desperately need to catch up! I feel like I’m missing out by not having gotten to them yet :/

    1. At least you’ve read The Raven Cycle! But yes, it feels like we are so far behind compared to others who are totally on the ball with it all (or so it seems).

  10. I agree on ALL of your choices. I’m so sad I couldn’t start most of them this year, the only exception was Grisha but I never continued Shadow and Bone lol. I hope the next reading year is way better 😀

    1. Me too. I was so excited to read these this year but it never happened! Ugh life.
Yes, hopefully 2016 is better for the both of us.

  13. Falling Kingdoms is a must in 2016! I had to have that on my list as well because sooooo many people are reading and raving about it. So much in fact that I’ll be reading that next month in January 🙂

    1. Ooh, yay! Sara, let me know when you’re reading the series, maybe we can buddy read it together. 😊

  14. I’m right there with you on The Raven Boys, The Lunar Chronicles, and The Grisha Trilogy DX The sad part is that I really, really want to read them I just don’t have the money or the time to invest in a full series binge – at least not yet. I also have The Mara Dyer Trilogy, The Ruby Red Trilogy, and the rest of the Throne of Glass books (I’ve only read the first one, shame on me). Not to mention all of the book series I already have on my bookshelf that I haven’t gotten around to yet : ( I feel so horrible

    1. Let me first get this out of the way: YES! Shame on you for only reading the first book in TOG series! No, I’m kidding, it’s totally okay.
But my situation is practically identical! There is simply not enough money or time to invest in all of these series. After all, they’re quite expensive! I must start slowly purchasing more books though, I haven’t bought one in MONTHS.
Good luck with all the book series you still need to read! 😊

      1. Thank you ❤️ Good luck to you, too. We’re both going to need it! Haha.

I’m really sad about only reading the first one – I wanted to finish them all but I ran out of time. The library didn’t have any of them when I left for school, so I haven’t picked them up again despite how much I love the first one. But, I’m getting them for Christmas XD so… *evil laughter*

  16. This is a fabulous list, Josie!! I just started my Raven Cycle marathon and am halfway through The Raven Boys! The writing and characters are fantastic so far (plot is a little confusing but it’s still early days)! I also bought The Winner’s Curse and Crime in November so I’m definitely going to be bingeing those before The Winner’s Kiss is released! The Lunar Chronicles is my favourite series of all time so I hope you get to read them in 2016!! I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the characters and the plot just as much as I did. The Grisha trilogy is a little bit average but it does get better with each book! And it definitely pays off to have read it before Six of Crows because you have a better knowledge of the world 😀 (Six of Crows is AMAZING!). Lastly, I’ll probably read The Falling Kingdoms series in 2016 as well because Jesse literally cannot stop talking about them!

    1. Thank you, Jenna! Ooh, how exciting! I hope you enjoy it, keep me updated! Yes, definitely need to binge The Winners Curse and Crime! Let me know when you’re doing that, maybe we can read them together.
The Lunar Chronicles is going to be on top priority next year for sure.
Well, yes none the less I am excited for Grisha and Six of Crows most especially.
Oooh, maybe we can buddy read Falling Kindgoms next year! (I’ve been throwing out the mention of buddy reading so much in this post, oh gosh)
