The Beauty of Being an Organised Human | Monday Musings

monday-musings-featuremonday-musings-summary

Hello bookworms and welcome back to my blog, on this fabulous Monday! By now, you must already know, today I am doing one of my original features known as Monday Musings, and today I will be discussing with you all the topic of organization.

I’m an organisation nut. I’m crazy about it. If you follow me on Snapchat (my username is josierainbowelf if you were wondering), and if you know me quite well, you would definitely know how crazy I am about organization. I love to plan things: how my day will go, tasks I need to complete, how my week will run, what blog posts I need to do for the week, and I even love organizing my home and my belongings.

I believe that organization, and being organized is important. Especially if you’re a flighty kind of person that tends to forget things easily (guilty, as charged). Being an organized person, and having an organized life is, I believe, extremely beneficial, in many ways. Not only does it allow you to be a slightly more stress-free person, it can also help with making aspects of your life more efficient

Now, maybe you’re thinking, staying organized all the time is a lot of effort, or maybe you’re thinking that being organized and the methods of organization are boring. I don’t know if it’s just my crazy obsession with it, or what, but organization can be extremely fun. Keep reading, and I’ll tell you all the great things that come with being an organized person, and how it is not a boring task in the slightest, IF you know how to do it in a way that won’t bore you to tears.

Get ready to stress less!

Doing things such as planning your day, your week, your month… However you like to do it, will really help relieve any background stress that can sometimes run through your head. Writing down tasks that need doing and events that you need to go to means you have less things that you have to consciously remember, therefore meaning, less clutter in your mind.

It’s one of the reasons people write in diaries. Dumping all your thoughts down in words on a piece of paper is like dropping your heavy school bag on the floor when you get home from school. Bliss.

Unleash your inner artist

If you’ve seen ‘studyblrs’ on Tumblr, you’ll understand what I mean. Organization isn’t simply about writing things down, or keeping things neatly tucked away in their own designated spots. There are no limits to how you can organizeso why not do it creatively?

With everything from bullet journals, to planners, DIY organizational tools and equipment for your home, etc. Just take a look on Pinterest and BEHOLD THE WONDERS OF CREATIVE ORGANIZATION. There is an entire website dedicated to bullet journallingI bet you didn’t know that! There’s even online shops wholly dedicated to planners and organization, such as Erin Condren

What methods are there to becoming an organized human being? I’m glad you asked:

There are endless ways you can go to be an organized human. To be completely honest, despite my extreme obsession, I’m definitely not consistently an organized person. I’m very forgetful and I tend to sometimes not stick with my organizational routine. I know that it can be a tedious task at times, but there are definitely ways that make being organized fun.

Bullet Journalling:

This is something I only recently discovered, thanks to the beautiful website, Tumblr. I recently started going on a frenzy of following studyblrs which are basically Tumblr blogs that post pictures of their study spaces and set ups when they study, for motivation. (How ironic, since I graduated high school just recently).

But one of the things I found which caught my eye was bullet journals. They’re probably the simplest, minimalist and creative ways of being organised and keeping tracks of tasks, events, deadlines, whatever you need to organise really. It’s simple really. The name speaks for itself. A bullet journal is basically your planner, created by YOU, using bullet points, such as the one above. Why is a bullet journal great?

  • You can do crazy-creative things with a bullet journal; just take a look on Tumblr, or search up images on Google! It’s a creative outlet!
  • It’s so simple and easy to use
  • You can create it in a way that suits exactly YOUR NEEDS

If you want to find out more about bullet journalling, check out the official bullet journal website, by clicking here.

A Planner:

Planners. I’m quite sure you all know what these are. The picture above is an image of the Erin Condren planner which is beautiful and amazing. Planners are the traditional way of being organized. Usually you have a monthly spread/layout, and then a more elaborate weekly spread, where you can add all info of tasks and events for each singular day. Something I love about the Erin Condren planner that is different from others is that is uses a ‘morning’, ‘day’ and ‘night’ format, and uses blank space instead of lines. FABULOUS I TELL YOU.

For those of you who like to have everything set up for you already, a planner is great. I personally don’t like the conventional planners that use specific times, which is probably why I adore the Erin Condren planner so much. However, these planners can be very expensive. Which led me to create my own planner on Word. It’s so simple and easy to create your own planner using shapes on Microsoft Word, and then printing it off on thick paper and placing it in a binder. It was a method of mine for a very long time, during school.

Why are planners so great?

  • There are so many different ones out there; ones that you can buy, like the Erin Condren, or ones that you can get for free online (these are known as printables)
  • Its all set up for you; for all you lazy humans out there (once again, guilty as charged)
  • THEY COME WITH CUTE STICKERS; which you can buy from all over the place – Etsy tend to have some adorable stickers for planners.
  • It is also extremely easy to go crazy with your creative side when using planners – just have a look at YouTubers who have planners/videos on their planners, they’re intense

Now these methods I just mentioned are only touching on the surface, but these are some of the best organization tools that can be applied to all areas of your life (theoretically, at least). I can’t say that I’m a huge expert on physical organization, but that is definitely a topic of discussion for another time, perhaps.

I hope to have converted you into the art of being organized. Honestly, if you’re still not convinced, go take a look at Tumblr, go watch some planner/organizational videos on YouTube and get your inspiration fired up!
I assure you, not only will being more organized help declutter your mind and your space, it can ignite your creative juices and, if you’re stationary-obsessed (like me), you have an excuse to spend a ridiculous amount of money on pens

  5. I myself was a planner-freak person in college! Especially when I bought something that’s pretty expensive, I try to make it look neat and creative and adhere to what’s written as much as possible so I wouldn’t erase anything! But now, everything’s jotted down on my phone. And oh is that your handwriting? It’s so neat! You maybe have a knack in calligraphy! 😀

    1. One of the things I am excited for about university is that I can go crazy with organisation and study!
Being neat and creative at the same time, yes please!
None of the photos are mine, I wish though! I’m working on my calligraphy, but I’m not the best (like no where close to the best) at it 😆

  6. Whew, these are some awesome organization tips! I think I’m good with organization for now – sometimes I spend more time organizing things than actually doing them. 😀 Haha whoops! Either way, it’s definitely a great way to become more productive.

  7. I was sold on the whole buying pens part. I might do this sometime next year, even though the very lovely planner with June Digann’s work is tempting me terribly. I have another 6-month planner to use up, and after failing to use the one I have right now, I’ll work hard to utilize my new one more.

    1. Oh of course! Just the mention of buying new stationary just gets my excitement levels racing 😍
Maybe if planners are difficult for you, how about bullet journaling? ☺️ but good luck using your planner! I hope this post gave you an extra boost to use it more frequently.

  8. I love this post, Josie! I’m a pretty organised person myself but I love seeing how other people stay organised! I do most of my planning and organising electronically now but I’ve got to say, I love the look of bullet journaling! The only problem is that I’m not very creative 😀

    1. Thank you Jenna!
I always look at how other people organise themselves! It’s something I could spend hours doing, to be honest! (Is that weird?)
But yeah, I have a combination of electronic organisation and manual too, like, events and stuff are usually put in my Google Calendar, and since I always have my phone on me, it’s how I write down reminders throughout the day too!
Well you don’t need to be creative to gullet journal, that’s just an extra! If you’re interested, do some research on it! Tumblr has a huge range of information about it 😊

      1. I think I might start by writing my book review notes into a nice Kikki K notebook or something. I always write notes on my phone and delete them afterwards but it would be nice to have them written nicely in a book and be able to look at them in the future. I will definitely check out the Tumblr posts!

  13. I use a planner, but to be honest, there are times I stick to it, i annotate what I need to to on a certain week, work and blog related, and so on. but then if I don’t follow it for a couple of days, I end up not picking it up for weeks on end, until I remember it again… =/
I’m glad you can organize yourself like that, I wish I was more disciplined with it

    1. Yep, I’m like that sometimes too! But I try to be consistent, but that’s why I love bullet journaling, it’s so easy to do it everyday!

  14. I am terribly envious of people who can make schedules, to-do lists, and any other form of organizational method, and stick to them. I can be organized when I feel like it. In fact, I have mild OCD. This means I can be very organized one moment, then completely messy the next. I don’t know why my mom insists on giving me planners. I have no idea how to use them! Your post makes me want to bullet journals and using planners again, tho.

    1. Trust me, when I see posts on Tumblr, I get envious too! And I totally understand that OCD thing, it’s happened to me on some occasions!
YES THAT WAS MY GOAL, to spark a fire of inspiration in you to do these things! Maybe try bullet journaling, you never know, you might love it!

  15. Thank you for this post! I’m the exact opposite of an organized person (Okay maybe not because some of my stuff are neatly organized and arranged alphabetically – I really get OC sometimes). But when it comes to planners, gosh I’m a mess. I tried! Even bought one (scratch that I actually bought two just this year)! I haven’t written a single dot on it. I even watched Youtube videos. I know what you mean by their videos – theyre really intense haha. Inspiration-worthy-loaded though XD
I’m more of the techie kind of girl so I guess for now I’m sticking to Google Calendar. My semester is ending early December anyways. I’ll sure try planners again next year!

    1. Oh I totally get what you mean! There have been times where I completely neglected my own planner and then I felt guilty! It can be hard to keep up with it sometimes, I know that.
But I also use Google Calendar, to keep track of future events and so on! I should definitely do a post on technological organisation tools… Hm…
You could always try bullet journaling if planners aren’t working for you!

      1. You really should write a post on that! I’ve tried a bunch of apps and so far on Google Calendar is working for me. I like how it syncs to almost any calendar app on any device. I’ll surely be on the wait for that post. 😀

  17. ORGANISATION IS FUN! I LOVE making to-do lists and just writing down everything I need to do feels relaxing and reduces the stress (at least a little bit haha). I can’t do without my to-do lists. I just can’t. I have a planner full with pictures of pugs haha (maybe it’s too distracting…) and I put a sticky note at the end of the second page (so it takes up a bit of the weekend space) where I write down everything I need to do that week ^-^ This is such a great post and sparks up my inner organisation flame or something haha

  18. I want to be an organised person so badly!!! I watched that video on bullet journaling and it looks like something I could do!
The problem for me though, is that I’d spend like a billion years making sure the journal looked perfect and then never actually do anything on it haha
But seriously, my life’s becoming more and more hectic and I’ve been thinking about trying to start keeping to-do lists and such to help me.
