Spotlight Saturday #11
Hello bookworms and welcome back to Josie’s Book Corner! Once again we’ve hit another Saturday, the third Saturday of the second-last month of the year! (Does anyone else find that sentence mildly confusing?)Β
Spotlight Saturday is a weekly feature, created by Josie at Josieβs Book Corner [aka, moi], dedicated to spotlighting and pinpointing some of the things over the week that have caught my attention more than usual, things Iβve particularly loved, etc.
I missed last week’s Spotlight Saturday, I know I know, please don’t judge me! This is my feature, so I suppose I can make up the rules… BUT ALAS, I still apologize for my inconsistency. Life without school has proven to be busier than lifeΒ with school!Β
The time when I run out of bloggers to spotlight will be the day I know there is something wrong. There is an array of book bloggers out there, many of which I have not met yet (but I wish to meet you all, so please show yourselves to me!)
This spotlighted blogger is long overdue, I think. She probably wasn’t even expecting to be spotlighted in this feature of mine, but here she is! Okay so I feel extremely bad saying this, butΒ I do not know this blogger’s name!Β However, this lovely lady hosts a blog calledΒ The Candid Cover and it’s amazing!Β
She is always so active on the blogosphere, not just with herΒ own posts but in commenting on other blogs too! I can almost always guarantee that she will comment on one of my recent blog posts and they are always kind and genuine comments.Β
You should definitely check out The Candid Cover, you’ll be missing out if you don’t!Β
I’m making up for my absence last Saturday, by giving youΒ 5 spotlighted blog posts!Β Brace yourself for a flurry of fabulous posts that youΒ must check out immediately.Β
Earlier this week,Β Cait @ Paper FuryΒ published a post revealing the true meaning to theΒ language of writersΒ called:Β HOW TO TRANSLATE WHAT THE WRITER-CREATURE IS TRYING TO SAY. Cait is pretty muchΒ on pointΒ with her translations of things that we writers say.Β If you’re a writer, you’ll definitely enjoy this. And if you’re NOT Β a writer, you’ll finally understand what we crazy creatures are talking about!Β
Also a few days ago, the lovelyΒ Aila @ One Way or and AuthorΒ introduced her participation in a new blogging project, theΒ Blogger Positivity Campaign.Β In this post, she basically gave us herΒ introduction, telling us about herself. It was great to get to know her a little better and truly you should all check her post out, because she is simply a wonderful person and a great blogger.Β
If you don’t knowΒ CW @ Read, Think, PonderΒ then you have not experienced the fullness of the book-review-blogosphere. CW is one of my favourite people to look to when reading book reviews, and in her recent review ofΒ The Martian by Andy Weir, her reviewing skills really come to life.Β I assure you, you will be positively addicted to reading her reviews. They’re long, but when reading it, you won’t evenΒ realizeΒ how long the reviews are!Β
Cristina @ Girl in the PagesΒ recently published a postΒ sharing her reasonings and opinions on non-fiction books called:Β THE GIFT OF FEAR: NON-FICTION THAT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE. I thought this was a fantastic post to see because I feel as thoughΒ non-fiction is not talked about enough on the blogosphere!Β
Last, but certainly not least,Β Leigh @ Little Book StarΒ published a post discussing, “Why You DONβT Need a Blogging Schedule”. This was a short but interesting discussion, which I find isΒ very relevant for bloggers today. We all have our own different strategies to blogging. Some of us like to stick to a tight schedule, while others of us like to be spontaneous.Β This will be a reassuring post for those feeling the pressure of scheduling, but not being able to step away from it!Β
This week has been a busy week, and my memory is suddenly failing me as I write this sentence, because I can’t remember anything I did this week besides what happened last night.Β But let’s roll with it.Β
Yesterday was Friday night (obviously), and was the last night for my weekly youth group for this year. We ended in style, going for a formal/ball-type event withΒ delicious food,Β fun games and just a generally good time. What I loved the most about it wasΒ being able to dress up.Β I will take any opportunity to dress up, and this was definitely one of those opportunities!
This might be a weird one, but I am loving theΒ voice memos appΒ on the iPhone. This week I’ve been doing a lot ofΒ recording myself sing and play pianoΒ using this app, and the sound is so incrediblyΒ crisp and clear, it sounds as if I had used a professional microphone and recording system!Β
I’m honestly tempted to record a full, proper recording of a song using it.Β
This week has honestly been a week for aΒ huge discovery of new favourite tracks, you wouldn’t believe. And while I am tempted to list all the new favourites I have discovered, I am going to refrain and narrow it down to two songs.Β
Lush Life by Zara LarssonΒ is such a groovy song, it’s a song that will make you want to dance, even if you are an anti-dancer like her. The beat of the song, mixed with the tune of the lyrics is justΒ so rhythmic and fabulous.Β
Youth by Troye SivanΒ is one of his newest songs. I absolutely ADORE Troye. He is so cute and I just really want to hug him. His voice makes me want to hug him even more.Β YouthΒ is such a great song. I especially love the lyrics, and I honestly am blown away by all of Troye’s songs, in which all have such beautiful lyrics!Β
“It’s like we each have a wall that separates our dreams from reality, but mine has cracks in it. The dreams can wriggle and squeeze their way through until it’s hard to know the difference.
Sometimes the wall breaks completely. It’s then that the nightmares Β come.”
~ The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer
I started readingΒ The Shock of the FallΒ today at work and my goodness, I have already tabbed so many quotes in the first 50% of the novel. It’s such a dark and raw novel and I amΒ simply loving it.Β
Tell me your fabulous thoughts, bookworms!
