Spotlight Saturday #11 | Weekly Feature

Spotlight Saturday #11

Hello bookworms and welcome back to Josie’s Book Corner! Once again we’ve hit another Saturday, the third Saturday of the second-last month of the year! (Does anyone else find that sentence mildly confusing?)Β

Spotlight Saturday is a weekly feature, created by Josie at Josie’s Book Corner [aka, moi], dedicated to spotlighting and pinpointing some of the things over the week that have caught my attention more than usual, things I’ve particularly loved, etc.

I missed last week’s Spotlight Saturday, I know I know, please don’t judge me! This is my feature, so I suppose I can make up the rules… BUT ALAS, I still apologize for my inconsistency. Life without school has proven to be busier than lifeΒ with school!Β

Slide1

The time when I run out of bloggers to spotlight will be the day I know there is something wrong. There is an array of book bloggers out there, many of which I have not met yet (but I wish to meet you all, so please show yourselves to me!)

This spotlighted blogger is long overdue, I think. She probably wasn’t even expecting to be spotlighted in this feature of mine, but here she is! Okay so I feel extremely bad saying this, butΒ I do not know this blogger’s name!Β However, this lovely lady hosts a blog calledΒ The Candid Cover and it’s amazing!Β

She is always so active on the blogosphere, not just with herΒ own posts but in commenting on other blogs too! I can almost always guarantee that she will comment on one of my recent blog posts and they are always kind and genuine comments.Β

You should definitely check out The Candid Cover, you’ll be missing out if you don’t!Β

Slide2

I’m making up for my absence last Saturday, by giving youΒ 5 spotlighted blog posts!Β Brace yourself for a flurry of fabulous posts that youΒ must check out immediately.Β

Earlier this week,Β Cait @ Paper FuryΒ published a post revealing the true meaning to theΒ language of writersΒ called:Β HOW TO TRANSLATE WHAT THE WRITER-CREATURE IS TRYING TO SAY. Cait is pretty muchΒ on pointΒ with her translations of things that we writers say.Β If you’re a writer, you’ll definitely enjoy this. And if you’re NOT Β a writer, you’ll finally understand what we crazy creatures are talking about!Β

Also a few days ago, the lovelyΒ Aila @ One Way or and AuthorΒ introduced her participation in a new blogging project, theΒ Blogger Positivity Campaign.Β In this post, she basically gave us herΒ introduction, telling us about herself. It was great to get to know her a little better and truly you should all check her post out, because she is simply a wonderful person and a great blogger.Β

If you don’t knowΒ CW @ Read, Think, PonderΒ then you have not experienced the fullness of the book-review-blogosphere. CW is one of my favourite people to look to when reading book reviews, and in her recent review ofΒ The Martian by Andy Weir, her reviewing skills really come to life.Β I assure you, you will be positively addicted to reading her reviews. They’re long, but when reading it, you won’t evenΒ realizeΒ how long the reviews are!Β

Cristina @ Girl in the PagesΒ recently published a postΒ sharing her reasonings and opinions on non-fiction books called:Β THE GIFT OF FEAR: NON-FICTION THAT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE. I thought this was a fantastic post to see because I feel as thoughΒ non-fiction is not talked about enough on the blogosphere!Β

Last, but certainly not least,Β Leigh @ Little Book StarΒ published a post discussing, “Why You DON’T Need a Blogging Schedule”. This was a short but interesting discussion, which I find isΒ very relevant for bloggers today. We all have our own different strategies to blogging. Some of us like to stick to a tight schedule, while others of us like to be spontaneous.Β This will be a reassuring post for those feeling the pressure of scheduling, but not being able to step away from it!Β

Slide4

This week has been a busy week, and my memory is suddenly failing me as I write this sentence, because I can’t remember anything I did this week besides what happened last night.Β But let’s roll with it.Β

Yesterday was Friday night (obviously), and was the last night for my weekly youth group for this year. We ended in style, going for a formal/ball-type event withΒ delicious food,Β fun games and just a generally good time. What I loved the most about it wasΒ being able to dress up.Β I will take any opportunity to dress up, and this was definitely one of those opportunities!

Slide5

This might be a weird one, but I am loving theΒ voice memos appΒ on the iPhone. This week I’ve been doing a lot ofΒ recording myself sing and play pianoΒ using this app, and the sound is so incrediblyΒ crisp and clear, it sounds as if I had used a professional microphone and recording system!Β

I’m honestly tempted to record a full, proper recording of a song using it.Β

Slide6

This week has honestly been a week for aΒ huge discovery of new favourite tracks, you wouldn’t believe. And while I am tempted to list all the new favourites I have discovered, I am going to refrain and narrow it down to two songs.Β

Lush Life by Zara LarssonΒ is such a groovy song, it’s a song that will make you want to dance, even if you are an anti-dancer like her. The beat of the song, mixed with the tune of the lyrics is justΒ so rhythmic and fabulous.Β

Youth by Troye SivanΒ is one of his newest songs. I absolutely ADORE Troye. He is so cute and I just really want to hug him. His voice makes me want to hug him even more.Β YouthΒ is such a great song. I especially love the lyrics, and I honestly am blown away by all of Troye’s songs, in which all have such beautiful lyrics!Β

Slide7

“It’s like we each have a wall that separates our dreams from reality, but mine has cracks in it. The dreams can wriggle and squeeze their way through until it’s hard to know the difference.

Sometimes the wall breaks completely. It’s then that the nightmares Β come.”

~ The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer

I started readingΒ The Shock of the FallΒ today at work and my goodness, I have already tabbed so many quotes in the first 50% of the novel. It’s such a dark and raw novel and I amΒ simply loving it.Β

And there you have it! That is the end of this week’s Spotlight Saturday. I know, this week it was a little long-winded, but now you are fully equipped with many new blog posts to read and songs to listen to, plus a few other good things.Β

What are YOUR spotlights this week?

  2. I love all your Spotlight Saturday posts! I’ll definitely check out the posts you spotlighted. OH, and that quote makes me want to read The Shock of the Fall so bad! I’ve heard it’s similar to A Monster Calls, which is one of my favorite reads of 2015. I was at B&N literally 1 hour ago and I was about to buy it….but there were no paperbacks. So I got 2 paperback books instead of that one. Next time though, I’m sure! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you Paige! ❀️ You’re more than welcome to join in if you want! It’s open for all and I know a few bloggers who have joined in so far.
The Shock of the Fall is astounding, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I do, honestly! The writing is beautiful.
Oh no! Should have bought it, girl! 😭
      Next time… Next time!

  3. AHHHH thank you Josie!! You’re such a sweetheart – thank you for your super kind words. β™₯β™₯
I listened to Lush Life by Zara Larsson and WOW I love it! It’s so catchy! The timbre of her voice sounds a little like Rihanna. πŸ˜€
Youth sounds very ‘atmospheric’ (probably not the best word…); it’s not something I’d typically listen to, but I like it!

It’s cool you’re keeping busy even though school has ended! I wasted away my summers doing silly things and being incredibly lazy (it was nice but in retrospect I wish I made more use of my time)! So good on yah, Josie! c:

    1. CW, honestly it’s a pleasure πŸ’“
Oh my gosh yes! You’re so right! There’s a sense of Rihanna in her voice!
I’m glad you enjoy Youth despite it not being you’re type of song. I tend to really gravitate towards “atmospheric” music like this one.
Sometimes I wish I could just laze around and play Fallout 4 and read all day! But being busy is great too 😊
      Thank you CW!

      1. Oh I know what you mean! Have you heard of the slow version of Young Blood by The Naked and Famous? I’m not a fan of their music, but I really like this version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKah46d41Mw). πŸ˜€

Ooooh you got Fallout? If yes, how are you liking it? c: There’s so much to explore! I’m 15 hours in and haven’t even started the main quest yet, hahaha.

      2. Ooh I’ll check it out!
And I have Fallout but I haven’t started playing it yet! So little time due to blogging, books and life! But soon… Soon! I’m excited for all the exploring 😊

YES, you mentioned Troye. I haven’t listened to some of his new songs, and I just ran to Spotify to listen to Youth. i still need to listen to Talk Me Down but I loved his WILD EP and what i’ve heard from his other songs.

  6. Sounds like you had fun Friday night πŸ˜€ I love dressing up too – I have to get up early for school so I often don’t feel like it, but when I do get to dress up for whatever occasion – I love it πŸ˜€ And fun games and delicious food? You can’t go wrong with those πŸ˜€

    1. Oh indeed I did! And I stuffed my face with potato bake! Yummmm. 😍
Getting up early is a pain sometimes, right? But those times when I can get up early it feels so good!
Exactly, you can never go wrong with that combo! 😊

      1. Oooh I’ve never had that, but it sounds good! Haha yes, but if I have to get up early to do something fun or if it’s voluntarily I don’t mind at all πŸ˜€

  7. Your quote from The Shock of the Fall really makes me want to read the book! Thanks to your great recommendation, I’m now reading The Knife of Never Letting Go. Intense and very, very well written. What great characters.

    1. You should definitely check out The Shock of the Fall! It’s a darker read, it reads similar to A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness but it’s beautiful!
YAY! I’m so glad you’re reading The Knife of Never Letting Go! You’ll love it I’m sure. Ness’s writing in that book is superb.
