Hello bookworms and welcome back to Josie’s Book Corner! Today, I am bringing to you a review for Clockwork Princess, the third and final book in the Infernal Devices trilogy!
If you have not read the first and second book in this series, then do not read this review, or proceed with CAUTION. If you HAVE, then you may continue with no cares in the world, for this is a spoiler-free review for anyone who has  read up to the second book.

My Review:

If you haven’t read this series yet, and you are still here reading this very sentence, I urge you to look away! But first, before I let you go, I will give you one piece of completely spoiler free advice… GO READ THIS SERIES NOW, BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Now go! Shoo! Before you get spoiled for this incredibly amazing series.

Clockwork Princess, the final book in the Infernal Devices trilogy, was entirely amazing. And although it took me more than a week to read (thanks EXAMS), if I had more free time, it would have been completed in a mere three or four days. This series is one that gets better and better as the books progress. Three books just wasn’t enough. There was an incredible amount of action, and a plot that keeps you invested continuously without fail, extreme character development, AN INCREDIBLE BROMANCE, AN EVEN MORE INCREDIBLE ROMANCE, and a resolution that will simultaneously break your heart and piece it back together again (which is possibly based on who you ship).

But that’s enough of that. Since this book obviously gave me all the feels (which is evident, because, FUN FACT, I cried for the entirety of the last few pages and the epilogue), I am not equipped enough to give a full blown review. Instead, I am going to do this in list form, and tell you all the amazing things that make this book the five star read that it is!

The bromance of all bromances

MESSAGE TO JOEY @ THOUGHTS AND AFTERTHOUGHTS! This series has the best bromance I have ever encountered. If I had to ship anyone, I would ship Will and Jem as the bromance of the year and of all years to come. In Clockwork Princess you just see the full extent to Will and Jem’s friendship, which goes soul-deep, as if the very atoms of their bodies are linked. The amount of times I have cried (both from happiness and sadness) due to their bromance, is more than I can say about any other book.

A love triangle that you can actually enjoy

You know what is awesome? Finding a love triangle that doesn’t annoy you, but instead pulls you deeper into the story and gets you even more emotionally invested in all the characters. Clockwork Princess did this for me. I want to thank Cassandra Clare for this because I don’t think any other author can make me love three characters in a love triangle together all at once. NO ONE.

I was at constant battle with myself on whether I was a Jessa shipper or a Wessa shipper. I was a Jessa shipper for almost the entire time right up until near the end of Clockwork Princess. And just when I began to ship Wessa, Cassandra Calre twisted the strings of my sensitive heart (oh the PAIN).

A cast of characters you’ll fall in love with

Cassandra Clare did an amazing job of making me care for each and every one of the characters in Clockwork Princess. She developed all of their backstories flawlessly, in such a way that you come to know each an every character just as deeply as you might have known the main characters.

Compelling plot/story line

Cassandra Clare balances out the amazing character development with an equally amazing dose of action-packed, keep-you-on-your-toes kind of plot! It’s full of the underlying questions and mystery that ran through the entire series, and there were plenty of twists and turns along the way that keep you invested.

One of the aspects I loved about how Cassandra Clare approached the story was by giving the reader not just the perspective of the London Institute, but that of another aspect of the Shadowhunters, that leaves you sitting on both sides of the conflict, wondering what the heck will happen next and who will rise victorious!

The epilogue AKA: the tear-fest

Above all else, you MUST READ THIS BOOK FOR THE EPILOGUE. Holy macaroni, it was literally tears for the entire length of the epilogue, honestly. You know a book is great when the ending is as powerful as this one. An ending that is about to make you feel complete and utter joy, but still feel your heart breaking at the exact same time.

What else could I possibly say to give this book justice? It’s amazing and I can’t believe it’s over. This series has brought back all the feels that The Mortal Instruments gave to me as a younger reader. I will continue to read Shadowhunter novels until the day I die.

Great review! This book had so many awesome things in it! The bromance was just amazing I loved Will and Jem so much I literally couldn’t decide who I ultimately shipped I mean I wanted Jessa to end up together but I couldn’t shake of the feeling that Will and Tessa had something so special.. All the other characters in the book were equally amazing and well written and I can honestly say that I’ve never grown so attached to characters like this before… Oh and the dang epilogue was indescribable and made me cry buckets and buckets and no book has ever made me cry like that before , I assure you… I’m so glad I got the chance to read this book.. Sorry for this super long comment x

    1. Thank you, Nisha!
The bromance was possibly my favourite part of the novel. It’s so true, picking a ship in this series was so hard. Ultimately I shipped Jessa, but Will and Tessa definitely had something.
Cassandra Clare definitely has a way of writing characters that gets you so invested in their lives!
No need to apologize for the long comment, I love long comments! 😀

  3. Oops, I though I had commented on this…but it seems like I haven’t. But I’m pretty sure you know what I’m going to say, right?
    1. LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH. So happy you did too! Totally agree with you on the bromance thing. Will and Jem’s bond is so beautiful!
    2. The love triangle here was absolutely wonderful, I agree! Instead of detracting from the story, it made it so much better. THE FEELS though. ❤
    Great review, Josie!

Will and Jem’s friendship is my favourite, I ship their bromance so much.

  6. Even though I consider myself to be a Wessa shipper, I definitely do not care at all about who Tessa ends up with. The three of them are so great together that they should just stay together for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever…..and ever. Actually for me, Tessa doesn’t even need to be in the equation because the bromance in this book. THE BEST. I think there were 10 different points in the book that made me ugly-cry and it was due to this absolutely wonderful bromance. 😥 ATTENTION JOEY: BEST BROMANCE EVER.

Wow, writing this comment almost made me cry. I love them so much T_T

    1. I know right? We can block Tessa out of this and it wouldn’t matter! BEST BROMANCE!!!!
      *hugs* it’s making me teary-eyed too 😭

  7. The feels ❤ I am a hardcore jwessa shipper ( why pick only two?). I remember falling in love with these books back in high school and, now, every time I reread them I fall in love all over again. The relationships between all of the characters are so complex and they spread so much farther than just the obvious scope of things.

There is only two other love "triangles" in existence that give me the same amount of feels as this one – and even then, TID wins all the way. (Triangles in quotes because one is technically a square *wink*).

Lovely review and discussion! I'm so glad you loved it, now we can fangirl together ❤

    1. Agh yes I totally know what you mean. Why pick one ship when you can ship them all 😉
And of course the relationships between all the characters was just so well done! I almost felt a part of it all.

Yay! We will fangirl about this series for all eternity 😊😄

  8. I feel you! Up until now, I still couldn’t decide if I’m a Wessa/Jessa shipper. But I’m 1000000000% sure Heronstairs is the best bromance EVER. I cried more for them than for other characters. I guess that’s what I love the most about this book. They are connected really deep, in a way only they could understand. It’s just too painful (in a good way) to read </3 AND THE EPILOGUE. It's the best one I've ever read.

    1. Yep, exactly. I am still indecisive so I’m just gonna ship the both! Haha!
And yep, Heronstairs is the ultimate bromance 👌🏼
I loved how this book was so emotionally connective, it was amazing!

  9. I agree with everything you said in your review; how can I not ❤ This is the only love triangle I'll probably ever tolerate and even love. IT'S JUST SO BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait till The Last Hours ❤ BUT I'LL HAVE TO 😭😭😭

  11. I’m so glad you loved this series! It’s one of my absolute favorites. THAT EPILOGUE I WAS SOBBING FOR AGES! The most perfect love triangle that has ever existed in the history of YA. Everything in this book is just so perfect. I can’t get enough of this series!

    1. It’s definitely one of my favourites now! This series honestly has everything we could ever need in a YA series 😭💕
And that epilogue will forever give me all the feels.

  12. The Infernal Devices is perfection ❤ I am a 150% with you, in every point of your list. A prove of its greatness is the fact that at some point during the series the reader doesn't know who they ship. Tessa and Jem? YES! Tessa and Will? OMG YES! Will and Jem's bromance? Holy moly YES! I don't entirely comprehend how Cassie Clare managed to do that with a love triangle! As soon as I finished the series (and stopped the ugly crying so I could think clearly) I grated her the title of freaking genius.

    Awesome review 🙂

    1. Yep, this series is truly perfection. Cassie Clare is up there with some of my ultimate favourites: Sarah J Maas, Patrick Ness, J.R.R Tolkien.
How ever did she manage to make us love both Tessa and Jem & Tessa and Will?! It’s torturous but I love it.
Oh gosh, the ugly crying at the end of the book. I feel you. Totally couldn’t stop, I even cried the next day!

Thank you for stopping by! ❤

  13. 😀 I’m so happy you enjoyed it this much, and I agree with you in everything. I love WIll and Jem so so much, and I obviously know that the only reason I kept shipping Jessa, was because I want my own Jem (and I had already read that After the Bridge link I sent you yesterday, so I knew what was coming).
I can’t wait to read more about both of them – Wessa in The last Hours, and Jessa in The Dark Artifices. 😀

    1. How could I NOT love it?! I knew the moment I started reading Clockwork Angel that I would adore the series.
I just came to love Will so much and there was not enough Wessa time for me so I can’t wait to read more about them!
And of course JESSA! Oh I love those two 😭💕

      Liked by 1 person

      1. yeah, true that there wasn’t enough Wessa time. But on the other hand, even if offpage, Will gets to do everything first with her, he’s the first one to marry her, to have a family with her. I can’t help but feel that Jem should have gotten something first, you know? But hey, at least I’ll get to read about their relationship
