Book To Movie Adaptations

ttt-banner

Greetings bookworms, and welcome back! Today, in the last hour of this fine Tuesday, I am bringing to you all the first Top Ten Tuesday post of the month! I feel like it’s been forever since I did one of these, and it’s about time I get back into the groove of things.Ā
This week the topic is book-to-movie adaptations we are excited about or haven’t seen yet. This is an easy topic for me because I am constantly hearing about movie adaptations, but I am also not a huge movie watcher. So let’s get to it, shall we?

Book To Movie Adaptations I Haven’t Seen Yet

1. Harry Potter

Now, considering I have not read the books yet, you should all be sighing with relief I suppose. However, I am not saying I haven’t seenĀ anyĀ of the Harry Potter movies. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen theĀ firstĀ and theĀ secondĀ Harry Potter movies more than once, and possibly even the third. However, I never got far enough into the movies. I have approximately watched less than half of the entire movie franchise.Ā

2. The Maze RunnerĀ

I have been meaning to go out and see this movie adaptation, but IĀ never got around to it.Ā I haven’t even read the books yet, so I have no flipping idea what the story is really about! But I intend to know soon (if I can find the time, with my flood of books in my midst).

3. Paper Towns

AfterĀ ABSOLUTELY LOVINGĀ the book, I was so excited for the Paper Towns movie and then… I never got around to seeing it. I still do intend of watching it however, because I am curious to see how well they did and if I like it better than the book. (Which possibly will NOT happen)

4. Me, Earl and the Dying Girl

IĀ haven’t read the book, however the movie looks so great! The trailers all make me excited to see the movie, and yet I still have not seen it! What am I doing? I think I’m not a movie person – but then again, how can we be movie people AND book people? Or is itĀ just me?!Ā

5. The Martian

Another adaptation in which I have yet to read the book! But never fear, I HOPE to read the book as soon as I can. It sound so good and so many people have raved about the movie that I MUST see it.Ā

6. Gone Girl

To be honest, I don’t plan to see this movie, but I thought I might just mention that I have not seen this yet (and probably never will). It’s not my type of movie, I suppose and neither is the book any more appealing to me.Ā

7. Insurgent

I was fairly impressed with theĀ DivergentĀ movie, and thought they did a good job, and I am of course excited for this movie, which is the second in the trilogy. Does anyone know if Allegiant will be adapted into a movie? Come on bookworms, give me all the details!Ā

Book To Movie Adaptations I Am Looking Forward To:

8. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I haven’t read the classic novel,Ā Pride and Prejudice, but this sounds so interesting! (Let’s be honest, I’m only taking interest in it because of the ‘zombies’). I know broadly what Pride and Prejudice is about, but not much that I feel familiar with it at all. But nonetheless, I am excited for this one!

9. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

There’s a pretty clear trend here… All of the adaptations I want to see are ones I haven’t read the books for! But oh well. While I feel like the book for this might freak me out, for some reason I’m excited to see how the movie turns out. Therefore, I am looking forward to it!Ā

10. The Fifth WaveĀ

ANOTHER book I haven’t read, let I am very very excited for the movie. I mean… ALIENS. Come on. And the trailer was pretty intense.Ā

And there we have it! Those are my Top Ten Book-To-Movie Adaptations! I hope you all enjoyed this on your Tuesday night (or any other time of your day depending on where you are in the world).

What book-to-movie adaptations are you looking forward to this year and next year?

  2. I’m the same way when it comes to movies, actually! There are plenty I want to see and I’m just not a tv-watching person. I think mostly it’s just because I don’t want to take the time to watch them… although, spending hours upon hours reading a book had never bothered me. *shrugs*

She’s really great in Penny Dreadful, which is a solid Victorian gothic horror tv show. I don’t know if I could rec it to you though cos I know you don’t like horrors haha.

  4. I do love my book to movie adaptations. It is kind of funny, though because I am usually disappointed about some aspect! The 5th Wave is one on the top of my must-see list as well. I have been listening to the audio book for months! It is pretty good, but so long. This is a fun post!

    1. I really enjoy seeing how adaptations take the story of the book and seeing how they translate it! Is it weird that I like to point out differences between the two mediums?

    1. That’s what so many other people said to me! I’m quite excited to experience it! I hope I read them around Christmas, I need the money to buy the series though!

  6. I really need to see Me and Earl and the Dying Girl too! I really liked the book, but I don’t think the movie was in theaters anywhere near me. šŸ˜¦ I guess that’s what dvd releases are for, right?

    1. Me too! I don’t think it was around near me either, at least, it wasn’t advertised very well here.
      Yes indeed! Trusty DVDs!

      Yes omg I’m terrified too!

  8. Haha all of the movies on your list I’ve either seen and loved, or really want to see! Paper Towns and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl are both such wonderful, hilarious movies! I rarely say this, but I think both of these movies were just as good as the books – if not better.

Seriously, you NEEEEED to read The Fifth Wave. It’s one of my all-time favorite series, even though I don’t normally like sci-fi. I’m so excited for the movie, and the trailer looks amazing!

    1. I can’t wait to see Paper Towns and Me and Earl and the Dying Girl! If you say that, I am indeed excited for it.
I know! The Fifth Wave has been on my TBR for too long, honestly!

  9. Josie! I will never, for as long as I breathe and exist, stop pestering you about reading Harry Potter. You might get annoyed, but will that stop me? Absolutely not. xD

I quite enjoyed Gone Girl – both the book and the movie, but I can see why it might not be your thing. Super dark and twisted and gory. I can’t wait to read the Martian either, but first, I must get my hands on the book. šŸ™‚

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hehe, oh that’s alright, keep pestering me so I never forget that it should be a priority! šŸ˜‰
Yes I feel like I might not enjoy Gone Girl so I probably won’t get around to that any time soon.
Yes I also must get my hands on The Martian book! šŸ˜„

  10. I’m sure you get this all the time, but YOU SHOULD READ AND WATCH HARRY POTTER! NOW NOW NOW! And I saw The Martian without reading the book and it was amazing! I’m hoping to read the book sometime this year because the film was so great!

I have a feeling that the Miss Peregrine’s movie is going to be a lot creepier than the books so I’d read them first šŸ˜€ And it’s really not that creepy! You’ll be fineeee!!! šŸ™‚

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes indeed I do get it all the time! But I am thankful for it because it reminds me of what is priority šŸ˜
That makes me feel better about seeing the Martian before I read it!
Eeep! I’m still scared! Maybe I’ll start building up the courage to read the first book (and will definitely not read it at night).
      Thank you for stopping by!

    1. I’m glad it assures you. I’ll always be behind on movies and TV shows honestly!
Oh wow. Well, people say that the book isn’t that great anyway so I’ll probably skip the book šŸ˜‰

  16. I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed Paper Towns. It’s not a film I’d watch over and over again but as a summer film it was great.

Me and Earl and the Dying girl is a film I’d been wanting to see for a while even though I haven’t read the book. However, my local cinema decided it hates me and didn’t screen the film.

From what I can tell Allegiant is being split into 2 parts. My excitement for these have films have waned since the first Divergent film so it’s not high on my to be watched list.

    1. Well, since it is summer here in Australia, I think it’s perfect timing!
Oh my gosh that’s so unfortunate! That’s a shame that your cinema decided to do that!
Oh yes I remember now someone talking to me about Allegiant now! Yeah, I haven’t been keeping track on it either, but I suppose that is because I’m not a movie person, hehe.

  17. Great list Josie! I can’t wait for you to see the Paper Towns movie. I enjoyed it, despite the fact that, of course, the book was way better, and I had a hard time with Cara. I can’t wait for the 5th Wave either, but I think I’m going to hide in my popcorn while watching, because, well, I’m scared, haha!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you, Marie! I can’t wait to WATCH it! Cara is what I’m nervous about too, but never connected with Margo in the first place anyway!
Really? You’ll be scared watching the 5th Wave? šŸ˜Š

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I never connected with her either, so I guess I wasn’t too disappointed about seeing an actress I don’t really like in this role. She ended up being..well, Margo, I still didn’t connect with her, haha, so in that way, it stayed true to what I felt during reading this book šŸ™‚
I’m sure I will be! I was kind of freaked while reading this story, but stories always have a bigger effect on me when it’s on the big screen- it seems more real, more scary, I guess? So I’m sure I’ll be a little bit scared, but I’m still going to watch it šŸ˜€

    1. Is Tim Burton a famous movie director? I’m so bad with all this kind of stuff, hehe.

  21. Haha! I totally just saw the trailer for P&P&Z the other day and it looks really good. ^.^ I haven’t read the book, but I’m familiar with the original P&P. (Very strange seeing diff actresses in the same roles.) But it looks exciting! Can’t wait for it!

  22. I love the HP movies, but the books are sooooooo much better. You just can’t fit in all that HP magic into a film. I didn’t realize Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is a film! That book is on my TBR as well. Maze Runner and Hunger Game films make my “haven’t seen” list, and I will probably never see them. Just not into dystopian.

  23. you know I think you should watch the harry potter movies, but the books are better, and you’ll eventually get there (or not, it’s ok). Me & Earl & the dying girl, I would say watch the movie, skip the book, is such a good adaptations, that you won’t be missing out anything – it has more depth than the book.
The maze runner is a bit meh, the book is ok, the movie is super different but also ok…

    1. Of course the books are better! I think I want to read the books first and then binge watch the movies! šŸ˜„
I’ll take your advice with Me Earl and the Dying Girl. From reading people’s reviews, they said the same thing as you!
I want to check out both the book and movies for The Maze Runner just to see how off course they went with the movie šŸ˜„

      1. Yes, read all of the HPs * no pressure*
I only read the first book of the maze runner, honestly I liked it, but it’s nothing special, the language slang made it a bit hard to really get into the story. My mistake was finishing the book 15 min before the movie started – it was still too fresh on my mind. The movie is actually good, but I kept comparing it to the book scene by scene… I still haven’t read or watched the second one…

I personally liked Me and Earl and the Dying Girl movie a LOT more than the book. The ending wrecked me!
The Martian was a good movie, but the book was just funnier and explained things better.
(I’m not going to say anything about HP, simply because I believe there are enough people out there willing to give you grieve about it hahaha, but don’t worry. It’s never as big a deal as they make it out to be.)
