10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me
YES, IT’S TUESDAY AGAIN. Woot, woot! While most people are the “thank God it’s Friday” type, I’m a total “thank God it’s Tuesday” type of person. Why? Because I’m a bookworm and flipping loves the Top Ten Tuesday weekly meme, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!
I don’t know about you but I’m so excited for this week’s topic. But seriously, how will I ever stick to TEN wishes?! Can I ask for unlimited wishes? Is that possible? But I suppose that would spoil the fun. I’ll just have to be extra clever about it.
One day, on a searing hot summers day in Australia, in the home in which Josephine lives in, a poof of dramatic smoke materializes in the middle of the room and up pops a genie, a BOOK genie, claiming he will grant me 10 bookish wishes, any at all. And so Josephine says: “I think I’ll wish for…”
1. The power to think of a book of my choice and have it materialize into my hands immediately
Every bookworm’s dream right?! But of course, this wish has limitations. Unfortunately, *scoffs* my genie has put in the rule I am only allowed to conjure up one book a day. I suppose I can live with that. (Otherwise I’d end up neck deep in a mountain of books, heh…)
2. Time to stop/pause whenever I read a book
WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME IN OUR LIFETIMES TO READ BOOKS. So, why not solve that solution and make time stop whenever we decide to read a book? Specifically books otherwise time would stop whenever we read words. Imagine being on public transport, suddenly glancing at a poster and the bus coming to a sudden halt? Flip, I’d freak. BUT YES. BEST WISH EVER, RIGHT? RIGHT?!
3. My own personal library
Please, oh, please wise and powerful genie, grant me my own library, in the shape of a beautiful home, where I can spend my days dancing with glee and constantly adding the books I conjure each day to my collection. My library should be covered with bookshelves of all kinds, a large fireplace that always burns, and the comfiest chairs in existence where I can either read on all day or, if I decide I want to sleep over for the night, I can do just that! THIS NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
4. All of my book boyfriends to come to life (this could get problematic)
This is a brilliant idea that has me squealing like a 12-year-old One Direction fangirl, but at the same time, this is a bad wish (because seeing all my book boyfriends alive and in this world will probably make me melt into a puddle of feels. I MIGHT DIE FROM THE FEELS). But pleeeeeease genie, grant me this wish. I need to see Rowan, and Aedion, and Will and Jem and Leo and Maxon and Legolas (technically he is alive and well as the gorgeous Orlando Bloom, but hey) and SO MANY MORE I CAN’T NAME BECAUSE I’M FANGIRLING AND MY BRAIN HAS TURNED TO MUSH.
5. The ability to read a book and see the movie play out through my own eyes
We as bookworms are constantly dreading the newest book-to-movie adaptation with fervor, because who knows how much a director will MESS UP our perfect book or series? For example, I am so flipping nervous for the Throne of Glass TV series. It’s so easy for directors to mess up the look of characters and to cut out important plot points and dialogue. WE WANT EVERYTHING. NOTHING SHOULD BE MISSED OUT. So what better than to have the power to see the movie in your head as you read it? Holy heck, please genie, I beg you to grant me this wish!
6. The world to have an actual job for bookworms who love to read and want to do nothing but that
We should get paid for reading books. I don’t care where you get the money from, but it must happen. This world needs a job for all the bookworms out there who dedicate their time and energy and love and MONEY into reading all the books created by authors (me included of course, please pay me).
7. The ability to jump into the world of a book and to experience it through any character I choose
I constantly read books and wish I could experience the situation with them. I’m currently reading Clockwork Prince and if you all have read it and know the scene with Will and Tessa during the Lightwood’s party, I WISH I WAS TESSA AT THAT MOMENT, HOLY FLIPPING HECK. *SWOOOOOOONNNNNNNN*
I want to experience the world of Celaena, the world of Tessa, the world of Shazi, and MORE!
8. The clothes of all my favourite heroines to be in my possession
I suppose this goes hand in hand with my last wish. Some of my favourite heroines have the BEST ATTIRE. Especially Celaena. Like seriously, can I please have all her clothes so I can dress up like her everyday? Including her kick-butt assassin outfits?
9. No more horrific book covers. NO MORE.
We value the beauty of our books. So I declare no more ugly book covers. Please. They must just not be possible!
10. Books that normalize diversity
Have you seen my last post about Diversity in Books? If not, you should. (lo and behold, my smooth self-promoting skills!) But this is something we need in books. A normalization of diversity, such as in terms of culture, sexuality, mental health and just all aspects of diversity in our world. I want to see everyone included in books! Especially people who are alienated in our society today.
