Bookish Things I Have OR Should Quit!

ttt-banner

Hello bookworms! I’m here today because it’s Tuesday and obviously that means its time for the weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish – Top Ten Tuesday!
This week the topic is the top bookish things (whether that be books, habits, authors, etc) that I have or should quit! This is a very tough topic, but keep reading to see my awkward attempt to create a list for this week’s topic! Let’s see if we can reach 10!

1. I HAVE quit…

Trying to understand or find love in the mystery, crime or horror genre. Sorry my loves, but it’s not happening. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo destroyed me for crime/mystery after only ten pages! And I get too paranoid at night to even stomach the mildest horror novel.

2. I SHOULD quit…

Dog-earring the pages of my books to mark quotes or as an alternative to a bookmark. It’s like ripping a patch of hair out of someones head!

3. I HAVE quit…

Trying to read Fifty Shades of Grey. It’s not happening no matter how much curiosity the book sparks within me. I saw a glimpse of those explicit scenes and I heard of the things this book promotes, and no thank you!

4. I SHOULD quit…

Trying to be a book polygamist. I only just recently started trying it a month or so ago, and I’m pretty sure it destroyed my entire reading mojo. Of course, that could have been due to other factors.

5. I HAVE quit…

Trying to be a book polygamist! No surprises there.

6. I SHOULD quit…

Buying the ebook and then buying the paperback or hardback edition of a book – but let’s be series, this is never gonna happen because of the immediate access to a book when you buy it as an ebook opposed to me having to wait a week for it to arrive from Book Depository. But I still want that physical copy… Bookworm problems indeed!

7. I SHOULD quit…

Reading when I’m doing other things such as making tea or making a snack to eat, or studying or just functioning as a normal human being. But again, let’s be serious. That’s not gonna change. Ever.

8. I SHOULD quit…

Requesting books because of their pretty cover. AH I’M SORRY OKAY I PROMISE TO READ THE BLURB PROPERLY NEXT TIME.

9. I SHOULD quit…

Prioritizing reading over school work… but – say it with me – let’s be serious.

Damn it all, I was THAT CLOSE. That close to getting to a top TEN. Oh well, I suppose it happens! I hope you enjoyed that either way!

What are some bookish things you have or should quit?

  1. Haha awesome list!! I agree on so much of these—they basically all apply to me. Especially the pretty covers one!! Ahhh, I just can’t help it. Also, prioritizing reading over school! Hehe I should definitely quit that habit… ❤

I should quit requesting books based on cover too. GAH. WHY IS THIS SO HARD THOUGH?!?! THOSE PRETTY COVERS GET ME EVERY TIME. And I find myself instagramming and promoing them BEFORE I read them just in case the insides aren’t as good. ahha. I’m hopeless. XD

    1. Ugh I know, it’s such a struggle! And I totally do that too! I just get so excited about the book that I need to share my feelings even before I’ve started reading. Oh well, that’s what makes us bookworms I suppose! 😄

I need to stop prioritising books over adulting but what can you do haha!! I love the way you set out this list. I used to be terrible at choosing books from NG because I did it purely on aesthetics as well. Now I have been scared off that site for life for a long while haha. I’m still chipping away at the approved pile. One day I shall get on top of it XD

    1. Yes indeed, what can you do? 😁
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Oh dear, good luck with all of them! You’ll get there eventually! Haha, the problems we bookworms face. 😂

  10. Although I adore the classics, I should stop forcing myself to read classics that just don’t appeal to me. Just because someone recommended I should read it because they have, doesn’t mean I have to read it. That’s my stupid competitive spirit popping up.
    And I’ll be a book polygamist until I die. I can’t help it. :-/

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh yes I totally understand that! I’ve been trying to push myself into reading classics but I still haven’t read any!
Haha! Well I’m glad you’ve got the art of book polygamy down. I can’t handle it at all! 😊

  11. I could never be a book polygamist either! I find it so hard to focus on more than one book at a time. Why not just finish one book before moving on to the next? I applaud people who can do it though.

I totally understand what you mean about the ebook thing. I’m probably even worse. I’ll buy the paperback in stores and if I really love it, I order the hardcover online. But I’m not sorry either 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Exactly! I’m always committed to one book at a time no matter how hard I try. I also do applaud those who can do it! It’s quite a skill I suppose.

Oh dear, that is worse! If I was a bit richer I’d do the same thing 😉 In fact I think about it but money is my only restriction here.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Be glad that you don’t have the money! It’s actually the worst habit and probably the one I should kick the most. I’m such a hardback snob though. They’re always so much prettier. #ultimatebooknerdproblems

  15. I love your post! 🙂
I can’t help but buy an e-book if there is a good deal and I know I will be buying the physical book too. I want to own all the books in all the formats, haha! If waiting for a book is so long and I know I want to read it right then and there, then I will buy the e-book first.

I mean, reading just sounds so much better than school (and work). Haha. It’s so hard not to choose reading over everything else, 😛 – I am a sucker for a good book cover and usually why I even decided to read the book description, to be honest.

    1. Thank you Ashley! Oh if only money was not an issue, we’d have three or more copies of the same book for each book we buy! 😂
Oh course. If someone told me to pick reading or school, I would pick reading above all.
Book covers can be angels but they can also be devils! Indeed if a cover is pretty I will read the blurb!

  16. I dog ear book pages too. I am incapable of keeping track of a bookmark for more than two days. Somewhere out there in the world someone is making a collection out of all my lost bookmarks. Also my books spend a lot of time in my handbag, and bookmarks just don’t withstand all the jostling! Picking up your book and realising your page is lost because the bookmark fell out is the worst.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahaha! Oh I totally get the problem with bookmarks. Although I keep them all in a pile on my bedside table, some still manage to get lost for a week before I find it again. And they really are not that great for when you have a book in your bag I agree!
I usually freak out so much when the bookmark has fallen out.

  17. Great list! I definitely should stop eating and drinking while reading, too, but I’m always drinking tea so I guess that won’t happen anytime soon haha! I sometimes used to dog-ear the pages of the books I read when I didn’t have my bookmark close by…I’m glad to say I managed to quit that one 🙂 And damn, I’m always thinking about reading while I’m studying, I really prefer to read, it’s not good but…well, BOOKS, how can we resist?!

    1. Thank you, Marie! Oh yes I always drink tea when I’m reading, usually reading makes me want to be constantly sipping tea (hence why I have it three or more times a day).
You’re an inspiration. I hope I can quit too 😉
Indeed! We are bookworms! We were made to read.

  19. What a fun – and awesomely honest – list. THe bookish thing I need to give up is dog-earing pages for quotes and then returning the books to the library before remembering to write down the quotes.

    1. Aw, thank you Eve! You’re spot on with that point! It’s definitely something I need to work on.

  20. Hahaha! Love the “book polygamist”concept. I’m definitely a book polygamist…I try not to be but its tough; good on you that you managed to quit that habit 😉 This was a good read 😀

  21. Yes! Dog-earing. Me too. I know I should quit this but it’s sooo hard sometimes, especially if I don’t have my phone with me to type up the quote that I just fell in love with! I need to start keeping a journal closer to me or some stickies in case disaster strikes, which in my house it always does. I also should stop taking my books everywhere with me, while I’m cooking or eating breakfast, etc, but that is really not ever going to happen for me either.

I did a TTT this week too, I focused on the 10 Tropes in YA that I Want to Stop Reading About! http://nicoletteelzie.com/2015/10/06/10-tropes-in-ya-that-i-want-to-stop-reading-about/

    1. Glad you can relate! I try to keep my bookish journal open and ready to write when I start reading a book, so far it’s working well!
And as for moving around the house with your books, ugh that’s a hard one. I also need to quit carrying my phone around with me everywhere! I’m glued to it all the time thanks to blogging 😊

  22. I read when I do things like eat all the time and I shouldn’t because it sometimes hurts the book haha. Nice list 🙂

  24. oh my, I loved your list! number 6 and 8 are spot on! I’m trying to control myself and not buy ebooks of series I KNOW I’ll want to own physical copies, but it’s hard! I bought Angelfall for my kindle because it was 1.22$ or something like that, but I know I’ll by the book as soon as i see it in front of me…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yay! Oh yes, 6 and 8… those are the biggest habits I should quit but probably wont! Hehe.
Oh goodness, I would be exactly the same with Angelfall. I needed that book in my life even though I had the ebook!
