Totally Didn’t… | Book Tag

Greetings bookworms! It’s the start of a new week, I hope your Monday has been treating you well! I will be starting off this fantastic week with a book tag that is WAY OVERDUE! I would like to thank Cristina @ Tiny Obsessions for tagging me, and apologies for getting to this so late in the game! But better late than never… right?

This tag was originally created by ReadLikeWildFire. CLICK HERE to see the video!

Alrighty! Let me point out first that all of these questions are going to be hard for me to answer because I am a very positive person when it comes to books and tend to appreciate everything about a book. I find it a little hard to stay critical for long. But anywho, let’s try and do this!

Totally didn’t need to have a sequel/sequels

Okay, this is a really hard question because if I like a book, no matter what, I will want a sequel. I don’t care what anyone says, I will enjoy a sequel. Unless it’s totally butchered. So far, I haven’t encountered any sequels that have totally destroyed a story for me.

But if I had to pick something, I would have to go with Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I have not read the sequel, but with the way it ended, I couldn’t even bring myself to pick the sequel up!

The sequel to Hush Hush

Totally didn’t need to have MORE THAN ONE point of view

Another hard one, because I can hardly remember all the books that had multiple points of view! And the ones that I do remember, are ones that I really loved. Gosh dang it. But one I think could have done without a multiple POV is Across the Universe by Beth Revis. This book had a dual POV if I remember correctly, and I don’t think it was necessary. It was interesting, but I felt like one was enough. (Such an inadequate answer, I’m sorry!)

Totally didn’t need to change cover art through the middle of a series

Yes! A question I can actually answer! This hands down goes to Divergent by Veronica Roth. I bought the first cover that I saw on sale, which was the one below:13335038

Only to discover the new, improved gorgeous edition. I internally swore at myself. I proceeded to resent the cover above because of it. I still haven’t bought the rest of the series (although, I have read the entire series).

LOOK AT THIS BEAUTY. UGH.

Totally didn’t need a love triangle

I have a definite answer for this. Waterfall by Lauren Kate. This is the sequel to Teardrop and the love triangle was totally, completely unnecessary. It was the one love triangle that made me want to rip the book apart! Especially with who the main character eventually chose at the end. *quietly seething with anger*

Totally didn’t need this book to be included in this series

Hard decisions… Hard decisions! But for this one, I’ll have to go with the second book in the House of Night series, Betrayed by P.C. and Kristen Cast. It was pretty pointless to the entire novel, to be honest. I felt like I could have skipped it and continued on. Of course, it was an important part of the series but overall it was pretty unneeded.

Totally didn’t need a cliffhanger

Honestly cannot answer this one!

Totally didn’t need to have JUST ONE point of view

I would have loved the addition of Olly’s POV in Everything, Everything! How wonderful would that be? I think it would have been a wonderful part of the novel if this was a dual POV novel.

Totally didn’t need that much hype

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. It was sadly SUCH a disappointment and I feel that it really didn’t deserve as much hype as it got when I initially heard about it. Of course, now I never hear about it.

Totally didn’t need a relative book reference

I can’t think of any!

Totally didn’t deserve my time

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley.

  2. Oh I’ve never heard of this tag! I understand how some questions could be difficult to answer though. I always feel so bad disliking a book; I want to like them all! I totally feel your frustration of cover changes haha. Why couldn’t they publish it with the beautiful cover in the first place??

    1. You should definitely do it! It’s interesting! 😁
I know right? Even more frustrating when they bring out a good cover and then decide to change it for something only slightly better. Like, come on the first one was fine thank you!! My Infernal Devices trilogy does not match because Clockwork Prince is in the new style…

      1. Oh God I hate it when my books don’t match! I bought the film edition of City of Bones because it was the only one they had and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. Now I really regret it 😦

Ah so much yes in regards to the Hush, Hush series! I remember being so excited about that book the year it was coming on – and then I started reading it and was i) bored and ii) super creeped out by Patch. It did not need to go on for four bloody books! Agreed about Magonia as well, it was so dull despite the lovely writing. I don’t think I have any interest on picking up the sequel.

But what a fun tag, thanks so much for tagging me ❤

    1. Patch was creepy as heck am I right?! Everything about Hush Hush was so weird.
Yes the writing is Martinis was fantastic! That’s why I find it so sad that everything else was so bland.
      You’re welcome! ❤❤❤❤

  5. I definitely agree about the Hush Hush series. It ended up being four books, but I stopped after book two. I just didn’t care for the characters. Great post, Josie. 🙂

    1. Glad you agree! I think the Hush Hush series is one that younger audiences would love, but once you’re older and have read other books, it’s hard to get into.
Thank you for the lovely comment Jess! xoxo

  6. I agree with you that it is hard to stay negative about a book for too long. If I love a book I want the sequels to never end! More is always good! 🙂

  8. Thanks for the tag Josie! I’d have to agree about Hush, Hush. It did not get better as the series went on haha. I still enjoyed them though. And the last book came with a letter that Patch wrote to Nora and that was full of feels lol. For the cliffhanger .. I’d say Mark of Athena did not need that actual and literal cliff hanger *cries* Percabeth! I also totally agree with Everything, Everything! I’d love to have his POV :DD

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ooh, a little from Patch! I feel like I want to read the rest just to see how Patch and Not a develop.
And yes you’re totally right! The Mark of Athena… Damn that cliffhanger had me screaming!
Yes yes! I’m glad you agree! 😄

      1. Haha, I can’t remember specifics but I remember liking the direction of their relationship. I just wish that Nora wasn’t like damsel in distress especially now that we have so many kick butt chicks fighting alongside the guys.
Worst. Cliffhanger. Ever. and then Rick Riordan’s dedication for House of Hades or Blood of Olympus (can’t remember) where he pretty much says sorry not sorry about the cliffhanger lol

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I totally laughed out loud when I saw that dedication! Luckily I bought the book right after the cliffhanger on my Kindle so I didn’t need to suffer the agony. 😉

      3. Haha! Lucky you :p I had to wait the year xD I think House of Hades was my favorite in HoO even though Percabeth went through literal hell lol

    1. Yay! It really would have been lovely to see Olly’s side of the story. It would be brimming with feels I reckon!

  10. Great tag, Josie, I loveed reading all of your answers 🙂 I didn’t even remember that Divergent cover, haha! 🙂 I have to agree with you about Magonia. I recently finished it, and I found that it wasn’t worth the hype either! 🙂

Yeah, Magonia was sadly disappointing, I was really looking forward to it though!

  11. Really interesting to see your comment about Divergent, as I much preferred the first cover. 😛 I have recently got Everything Everything, so looking forward to see if I agree with you. Totally agree with you on Betrayed 🙂

    1. I think I liked the second cover more because I have a weird dislike for people on covers of books (it’s not a consistent dislike which makes it weird).
I am so excited for you to read Everything Everything! You’ll enjoy it I’m sure.
      Glad we agree!

  14. THAT was the original cover of Divergent? Eeek!
I personally loved the Hush Hush series but then again I was very new to the YA genre (I think it was my second or third YA book) when I read it, so I probably liked it because I was “impressionable” lol. And ugh what is going on with HoN? They are stretching out that series! Did you read Revealed yet?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes I think if I read the Hush Hush series around the same time I read the Fallen series by Lauren Kate, I probably would have fallen in love with it (because my mind was so young)😂
I’ve read all the books from the House of Night series! It ended with Redeemed and I cried at the end. I really enjoy the series even if I extends for about 12/13 books 😊

  15. I love your answers. It is also hard for me to be negative about books. I would really have to hate it to get anything less than a 5 star rating (and that usually goes to DNF books).

Yeah I try my best to be as critical as possible so that I don’t end up giving every book I enjoy 5 stars! 😂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I totally fail in the being critical arena. I would say 95% of the books I read get a 5 star. Giving anything less than a 5 hurts my soul, ha ha.

    1. I know right?! And knowing us bookworms we want to buy the entire series so that it matches even if we are wasting money the same book twice. WHY DO PUBLISHERS DO IT?!
