Monthly Book Wrap-Up | August

Hello bookworms and welcome back to Josie’s Book Corner! We are now in our third day of September, and I think it’s about time that I wrap up August and tell you all about the books I read this month!
I’m ashamed to say that I only read three books this month! Ah! It was a challenging and overwhelming month for me, to the point where I couldn’t read as much as I hoped to. However, the books that I DID read were high-quality and AMAZING. So let’s jump right in, shall we?

How many books did I read from my TBR?

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Yes… I only read three books, but I managed to get half of my TBR for August complete! I’m going to look at this situation with the glass half-full. I am very happy that I stuck to my TBR and completed three very amazing books. I’m currently reading The Assassin’s Blade right now, and will be starting Mistborn soon, hopefully!

But wait… you want to know what I thought about these books I finished? Keep reading!

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

The Knife of Never Letting Go blew me away with it’s unique story and world and the amazing plight of a young 12-year-old boy named Todd. After reading A Monster Calls, I knew I had to pick up more of Ness’s work. I picked this one and gosh darn I’m happy I picked this one.

The Knife of Never Letting Go is a sci-fi, futuristic, coming-of-age novel that will make you laugh, make you cry and make you gasp with shock.

I gave this book: ☆☆☆☆☆ stars!

Everything Everything
by Nicola Yoon

I received this as an arc from Netgalley, and gosh I am so glad that I did. Everything Everything is the story of a teenage girl by the name of Madeline, who has a disease that causes her to be allergic to everything outside.

It’s very unique with beautiful writing and an adorable romance. However, it does not just focus on romance. It highlights themes of life, family love and loss. I believe it’s a must read for everyone, and you must try it at least once!

The Wrath and the Dawn
 by Renee Ahdieh

The Wrath and the Dawn is an electric, whimsically written re-telling of A Thousand and One Nights. It’s a romance-orientated novel with a strong female protagonist and a swoon-worthy, brooding and troubles male protagonist.

And not only that, it’s got incredible pacing, awesome side characters and the most suspenseful ending that will leave you screaming for the next book! Can you tell that I adored this book?

That’s it for this month’s wrap up! Despite reading only three books, they were some of the three best books I’ve read all year! So, I’d say reading three great books is better than 20 mediocre books, don’t you think?!

How many books did you read this month?

What was your favourite book this month?

Did you read any of the books I read?

  4. I am desperate to read Everything Everything! It is at the top of my TBR for September.

Patrick Ness is amazing. The Knife of Never Letting Go is so heartbreaking though! His latest book, The Rest of Us Just Live Here is so great. It’s all about what the other high school students are doing while the ‘chosen ones’ are saving the world. He sends up the structure of so much YA fiction in a really beautiful (and loving, lol) way. I really recommend it.

  5. Great Wrap up! Even if you had read only three books in a month it’s enough if they are amazing ones. I think you’ll definitely enjoy reading Unravel Me. I hope you like Assassin’s blade too. I’m planning to read Mistborn around next week. 😀

  7. You still had a great month, regardless how many you read! I would have loved to have 3 5-star reads for the month – my reading in August was so blah. I need to read these books – maybe I’ll have a better month. 🙂 In fact, I’m going to buy Everything, Everything right now. Everyone says it’s a must read.

I love your reviews. Thanks for posting about these books and convincing me to try them! I hope you have a great reading month in September. 🙂 xoxo

  8. I”m reading “The Knife of Never Letting Go” now, and it IS awesome. Fully agree with you.

I see a Mistborn book is on your list. The first Mistborn was AWESOME! The second one was good. The third one…eh, I’ve heard enough about it that I’m not eager to read it because I don’t want the series ruined for me.
