Mid-Year Book Freak Out | TAG

Our Newsletter

Holy freaking biscuits, we are over half-way through the year with approximately four months left to go! So I felt it was appropriate to do this book freak out tag. I was also tagged to do this tag by Analee @ Book Snacks, and I suggest you check out her post (by clicking her blog name).

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2015

Oh gosh, how will I ever answer this question?! There were so many 5-star books I’ve read so far this year, and so many that I adored. In reality, the best book I read this year so far was the Throne of Glass series, but I will refrain from using that here. Instead, I will go for a book that blew me away so much: The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. This book was simply fabulous. It surprised me and even made me ball my eyes out and the ending left me so shocked. So many feels with this book.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2015

This hands down has to go to Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas. This book was insane! The action just flew through the roof in this sequel, and it felt like I was literally flying through the book. Action-packed, full of steamy romance, and plot twists that left my jaw on the floor.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

This has to go to Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman. I’ve been hearing so many fantastic things about it, and I keep seeing it everywhere! It’s honestly very torturous.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

QUEEN OF SHADOWS. I’ll scream it from the rooftops, I’ll run around weeping and crying out when this book comes out… TOMORROW! I cannot contain my excitement, Sarah J Maas is the queen. THE QUEEN.

5. Biggest disappointment

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. I was expecting so much more from this book and what did I get? Quite a confusing plot with beautiful writing and forgettable characters. The writing was beautiful though!

6. Biggest surprise

The Novice by Taran Matharu. This book was surprisingly wonderful for a debut! I enjoyed it so much and I’m definitely anticipating the second book. Keep the books coming Matharu, I’m loving them!

7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)

Oh gosh… Sarah J Maas is an author that I fell in love with just this year. Most recently though, it would have to be Renee Ahdieh. Her writing is INCREDIBLE! I would probably read anything by her. AND PATRICK NESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8. Newest Fictional crush

I find new fictional crushes in almost any good written book I read. Most recently though, I have two crushes… Warner from the Shatter Me series and Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn. These two boys I am crushing on, especially Khalid. I want to steal him honestly! As for Warner, despite being a crazy flipping psycho in the first book, after reading the novella, I came to understand him a little better and I’m on the path to loving him now…

9. Newest favorite character

THERE ARE SO MANY. Cath Avery (Fangirl), Todd Hewitt (The Knife of Never Letting Go), Penryn (Angelfall), Shazi (The Wrath and the Dawn), Celaena (Throne of Glass), Charlie Bucktin (Jasper Jones)… I will not pick. I love them all!

10. Book that made you cry

The award for the book that made me cry like a little baby goes to three books: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting Go (again) by Patrick Ness and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

A Monster Calls had me crying like my cat had just died. It was just so beautiful and emotional and I honestly couldn’t hold myself up after the ending of this book. Patrick Ness, you’re a star, honestly.

Patrick Ness didn’t fail to make me cry, once again in his book The Knife of Never Letting Go. There was one moment in the book, a crucial moment that I DID NOT SEE COMING which made me cry and broke my heart so bad that I couldn’t pick the book up until the next day.

And as for Eleanor & Park, Rainbow Rowell made me shed tears for the situation and how everything turned out. I just wished it turned out the way I wanted it too! But alas, in life we don’t get to make those kind of choices. *sobs*

11. Book that made you happy

Rainbow Rowell does an amazing job of making me happy, especially with her novel Fangirl. I smiled countless times throughout this novel.

An honorable mention here is End of Days by Susan Ee. This series is freaking amazeballs, and it doesn’t get talked about enough! This was the last book in the series and just thinking about it makes me happy.

12. Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

The only book to film adaptation I’ve watched this year was Catching Fire (The Hunger Games #2). I’m not very judgemental with book to film adaptations unless they are my favourite books coming to life. If so, they need to be perfect!

13. Favorite review you’ve written this year

I’m sorry but I can’y decide. Just look through my “5 star” section of my book reviews and take your pick! 😀

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

HOW CAN I PICK?!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Basically all the 400+ books on my TBR. But I especially need to read the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling! Which, don’t worry Harry Potter fans, I will be reading at the end of this year! Maybe as my finale book series…

I hope you all had a wonderful time reading this very chilled out freak-out tag! (See what I did there? Yeah? No? Okay.)
I cannot remember who has done this tag and who HAS, so please if you haven’t done this tag, you have been officially tagged by me! Seriously, really!

  1. Great answers Josie! I don’t know how I missed this post lol. I love the Harry Potter series (as much as anyone). I hope you end up loving them, too! Catching Fire is my all time favorite book to movie adaptation. It’s one of the better ones out there!
The cover to The Novice looks really cool and it sounds interesting! I should pick it up. I seriously need to read Patrick Ness books! This post is filled with them haha

    1. Thank you! Hehe I don’t know how you did but I guess some things can just slip past! It’s happened to me a lot!
I can’t wait to see how Mockingjay turns out, are both parts out yet? (I’m horrible at keeping up with movie and TV show news).
It’s a great debut by Taran Matharu! He originally wrote it on Wattpad which is so cool.
Yes yes yes you neeeeed to read Patrick Ness’s books! They’re simply amazing. AMAZING. 💋😉

      1. Only the first part is out. The second part will be out in November 😀 You should watch part 1 right before you watch part 2 so that it feels like one movie, with an intermission in between haha. Part 1 was good, just slow because it’s the intro/first part of Mockingjay but it’s really detailed and close to the book!
That’s awesome! So many books to go through! I’ll add them to my TBR.

  2. I read A Monster Calls and cried this year, too! Love that you have the Knife of Never Letting Go on here! One of my favorite series of all time! Have you read the others yet?

    1. It was so powerful, right?! No matter how hard I tried, I don’t think I could have NOT cried.
I have yet to buy The Ask and the Answer yet, so for now, I’ve only read the first book. I will definitely be getting around to the other books in the series this year though! I’ll probably buy the next book in the series this week. 😀

    Oh boy!!! 🙂
Can we talk about Warner for a second? Or a few minutes??? 😀 I love him. I love that entire series. I knew there was something about that guy… Gaaaahh!!!

I have the Wrath and the Dawn on my bookshelf but haven’t picked it up yet. Good to hear that it was good. 🙂

Hmmmm… Sarah J. Maas. Do you think I should give the prequel of TOG another shot? 🙂

    Like

    1. Gosh, yes yes yes! Let’s talk about him for as long as you want! Forever maybe? I can feel that there is something about him that makes me want to kiss him and wrap him around me so badly.
You MUST read The Wrath and the Dawn, it’s simply fantastic. 😀
I think you should! A second chance may be all you need to spur a love for the series. I’m going slow on the prequel at the moment, just asking in it’s beauty.

Me too! Me too!!!! There is something subtly good about him even when he isn’t showing them. I love myself a good misunderstood hero… gaaaaah!!! 🙂
Yeah… i think I’ll start with the novella. Hopefully i get in with the bandwagon. Hopefully. :p

  5. My goodness! We share such a similar taste in books and movies. It’s almost like you were in my brain here. Definitely love the Throne of Glass series and Sarah J. Maas. As for Catching Fire, I was worried that it wasn’t going to be as good as the other films in the series, but actually blown away by its awesomeness! 🙂

I had tears in my eyes the entire time, I don’t think I ever fully stopped crying at any part. Love your other answers as well, of course! So many amazing book choices! 🙂

    1. I’m glad you agree! It’s amazing, and deserves all the praise.
I know, after that part, I just felt like I was on the verge of crying throughout. Todd’s predicament just kinda broke my heart honestly.
      Thank you! ❤ 🙂

  10. Nice tag! I absolutely loved the Throne of Glass series as well! I am dying for Queen of Shadows to come out tomorrow, I don’t know what I’ll do with myself.
I’m really looking forward to reading Legacy of Kings as well. I’ve heard a lot of great things about it and the plot looks really interesting.
It kind of sucks to hear that you didn’t like Magonia. It’s one of my most anticipated releases of the year and though, I own it. I haven’t read it yet. What was confusing about it?

    1. Thank you! 🙂
I’m so glad you loved Throne of Glass, another fan to fangirl with! Which team are you on? 😀
Oh gosh, I’m waiting for my copy to come in the mail and it’s killing me . I’m tempted to buy it on Kindle.
Yeah, Magonia was sadly quite flat… The pacing of the plot was just so confusing, I couldn’t connect to the main character either. But I hope you enjoy it better. I don’t usually dislike books, so this one was a rare occassion!
      xoxo ❤

      1. I think you’ll unfriend me for saying it but I’m Team Chaol haha To be honest, my favorite is Sam but you know….so Chaol for me is the next best thing. I think Dorian is too good for Celaena.
Dang that sucks, hopefully I’ll have a better time with it. I’m reading it in January possibly so we’ll see

        Liked by 1 person

      2. No no, I LOVE Chaol! 😍
I can see the possibility of Dorian and Celaena as they both have magic and they’d be a crazy power couple!
        xoxo 😘

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Ok good hahaha I just feel like Dorian needs someone different. And there’s so many hints at Chaolaena end game that I just can’t help but follow haha

        Liked by 1 person

      4. I know right?! There is no denying all those hints. They might be going through hardship but I do have an underlying feeling that they are end game.

      5. I’m scared of getting spoiled on Goodreads or something haha. I usually wait til the hype dies down and I’m not reading QOS until January

  15. Oh god THAT MOMENT in The Knife of Never Letting Go ;_; I swear listening to the audiobook made that part even worse because of the way the narrator read it. I assume we’re talking about the same part. “TODD?!”

And I can’t wait to read your thoughts on Harry Potter.
