Around the World In YA

Hello bookworms and welcome back! Today, on this lovely Monday evening, I’m presenting to you a TAG which I was tagged to do by the lovely girls: Anjie @ Love Thy Shelf and Becca @ Becca and Books.
I personally am a big fan of travelling, even though I have not travelled many places myself. I dream of travelling all over the world!
But in the meantime, I find myself travelling all over the world through the books I read, which is wonderful because I get to experience the diverse and beautiful cultures of different countries, all within the comforts of my own home!

The Rules:

The rules are simple. List a country, and then show which favourite book of yours is set in that country. You can use the countries I have used, add your own, or use completely different ones!

France

9627755

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins is set in the capital city of France: Paris. The culture isn’t explored deeply, as the story focuses mainly on the cute romance between the two characters, but it was lovely to see some references to different places in the country nonetheless!

England

10644236

I’ll have to go with Anjie’s answer here! Clockwork Angel is the first book in the Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare and it is one of my favourite books.

It’s set in 1800s London, which I think is totally epic. This book really shows the culture of London during that time in history, and mixes it so well with the Shadowhunter world. I love it.

Germany

19063

I’m afraid I haven’t read a book set in Germany, so I will have to go with one that I own and plan to read. That book, along with Anjie’s answer, is The Book Thief by Markus Zuzak.

This novel is set in Germany during the period when Hitler was in power. Nazi Germany. I’m quite a history nut and history is one of my favourite subjects in school, and learning about Nazi Germany was the best part of my education last year. I could learn about it all year ’round.

Amsterdam

11870085

I’m pretty sure it’s not a spoiler alert, but in The Fault in our Stars by John Green, the two main characters travel to Amsterdam. They have a lovely trip and through the trip, we get a glimpse of the culture and the food of the country! (Food is very important, ladies and gentlemen).

Australia

8407173

This is one of my favourite books of all time, set in the country that I live in! It’s set in the 1960s Australia, following a young boy named Charlie Bucktin, who one night, is approached by Jasper Jones, who shows him a terrible sight – the mayor’s daughter hanging by a rope tied to a tree.

It’s a heart-wrenching, incredible novel that explores coming-of-age, family, love, human nature, hypocrisy, prejudice, and much more. I recommend it to EVERYONE.

I hope you all enjoyed this little tag. I really enjoyed it, and I hope I gave you all some new books to read or to put on your TBR!

Would you like to do this tag? If so, I officially tag you.

[I’ve been under stress lately so I don’t have the time to tag and link certain bloggers]

This is such a great tag! I totally agree on your choice for England and Amsterdam. I have yet to read Isla, (along with Anna and Lola) though. And I really must read Jasper Jones soon, it sounds so amazing!

  9. This is a cute tag idea. I am going to shelve this one when I am in need of a blog post idea! I agree with you on not specifically tagging anyone. I never have the time to find out who would want or appreciate a tag. 🙂

Yes exactly! And its horrible when you realise you’ve missed out someone after they comment on your post. The guilt!!! 😊

  10. First of all, lovely changes to the blog, and beautiful new photo of you!

Second of all – ISLA!! Oh how I LOVED that book so hard. It lived up to every expectation after the very long wait for it to be released.

I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t read The Book Thief. Horrible, right?! I’m so behind on everything. I haven’t read TFIOS, either. *hides in corner*

I’m sorry to hear you’re under a lot of stress these days. I hope things get worked out and you find comfort in reading and blogging. xoxo

    1. Aw thank you very much, you’re so sweet! 😊💜
It was amazing! I wasn’t expecting it to be such a lovely book. I adored it so much that I recommended it to my non-reading best friend!
Well, we are in the same boat with the Book Thief. Maybe we can do a buddy read in the next few months? 😉
Well, I would say, check out TFIOS. I never feel the urge to recommend it but I must say it made me cry like hell.
I hope so too! The stress for so bad that I withdrew from reading and am quite far behind in keeping up with reading other bloggers posts but I’m coping right now. 😄
      Thank you, lovely!
      xoxo 💋💕

  12. You are a well travelled book lady 😉 Ah, you are Australian. My favourite part of the world. I went there for a year in 2007 and it was the best year of my life.

We were based in Brisbane for 6 months and travelled the East Coast in our camper van.

I fell in love with the rainbow lorikeets and all the wildlife in Oz really. It was amazing !!!

What part are you from? Xx

    1. Why thank you. 😉
Really?! That’s wonderful, it is great here. And now finally spring is showing its face. Today was the most beautiful sunny day we’ve had for months! I love winter but I’m slightly glad for spring.
I’ve lived in NSW when I was a little girl but my memories are not great. I’ve lived here in Western Australia for a long time now. I currently live in Perth. 💕
The rainbow lorikeets are gorgeous!!! 😁

      1. I have heard wonderful things about Perth. Its a shame we didn’t make it there but there was so much to see, we couldn’t have got to everywhere. We got to Thailand and Malaysia too. Great trip.

Enjoy the sun today. The sun is peeping through in Ireland too. We are heading into Autumn now, its the end of our Summer 😦

      2. I’m actually half Malaysian too! I was born in Malaysia, it’s a wonderful place. I really want to go to Thailand.
Oh I definitely enjoyed it. 😄 I hope you enjoy the winter, it’s the perfect weather to snuggle up with your books! 💕

      3. Oh thanks, I will. I don’t mind Winter all that much. I get to indulge my scarf fetish. Lol 🙂

Malaysia is so beautiful. We stayed on the Perhentian Islands for a month of our trip. I think it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I didn’t want to leave. Have a lovely day Josie xx

  15. Great picks! I hope you enjoy The Book Thief! It was so good, I also liked the movie. It was pretty decent for a book to movie adaptation! Jasper Jones sounds really interesting! I’ll have to add it to my TBR! I hope everything’s going well in school! It’s your last term right?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I really have been looking forward to seeing the movie adaptation!
Yes you must put it on your TBR. I had to read it for school but I was wonderful and even though the long chapters may make it a little difficult, it’s worth the read.
Yes it’s my last term! Things are very stressful.
      xoxo 💋

      1. I hope you enjoy the movie, too! It made me cry so much more than the book. I guess seeing it come to life was more effective lol.
