Hello bookworms and welcome back! It’s Tuesday, and that’s only means one thing here on Josie’s Book Corner: Top Ten Tuesday! This is a weekly meme, created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is my top auto-buy authors. I don’t know if I’ll be able to generate 10 for you, but lets see how we go. I’ve definitely got a couple authors swimming in my mind right now. . .
1. Sarah J Maas
This woman is an absolute QUEEN. I discovered her this year after reading and progressively falling into a deep love with the Throne of Glass series. I then proceeded to read A Court of Thorns and Roses and surprise, surprise! I fell in love, once again. Sarah J Maas writes the most gripping, wonderfully written and fabulously structured fantasy novels. And to be completely honest, every male character she writes I have fallen in love with. I’m not even lying guys. I love Chaol. I love Dorian. I love Rowan. I love Aedion. I love Rhysand. I love Tamlin. I love Lucien. HAVE I MISSED ANYONE? If I have, I probably love them too.
Whatever she writes, I will buy. No hesitations.
2. Patrick Ness
I discovered Patrick Ness recently this year also. After reading A Monster Calls, which brought me to an absolute mess of tears, I knew I needed to see more of his writing, and proceeded to pick up The Knife of Never Letting Go, which I was absolutely blown away by. Patrick Ness has proved to me that he can not only write emotionally gripping and deep contemporaries but he can also craft intricate, dark and completely unique sci-fi/dystopian novels too.
He has more than proved his worth. I will auto-buy any of the novels he produces.
3. Rainbow Rowell
And here I present to you, one of the best contemporary romance writers I have come across so far! After reading Fangirl as the first book of hers I’ve ever read, I was hooked on the light, wonderful and humourous style of her writing and the greatly relatable characters she created. I followed that up with Eleanor and Park where I discovered how well Rowell could twist my heart and my emotions through a beautifully written love story.
I will buy anything she puts out, and Carry On, her most recent novel which will be coming out soon, is one of them. I can’t get enough of her contemporaries and her writing style.
4. Cassandra Clare
I’ve been a huge fan of Cassandra Clare ever since I read The Mortal Instruments series. That series took me on a wave of obsession as I continually wanted to know what was going to happen next. When the series ended I cried with happiness, sadness and all-over-the-place emotions. I love her Shadowhunter world. And this year I began reading her prequel series, starting with Clockwork Angel and realised just how much I love her writing style and the characters she creates. She’s an amazing fantasy author. I also loved her collaboration novel The Iron Trial.
Cassandra, whatever you write, rest assured, I will buy it!
5. Rick Riordan
Shamefully, I have NOT read the Percy Jackson series. I’m so sorry, I promise to get around to them soon. But around Christmas time and during the New Year, I read the Heroes of Olympus series. That series is full of my love. Rick Riordan is amazing at weaving well developed fantasy novels focussed around mythology (whether it be Greek, Roman, and all the other types of mythologies out there).
I am certain that any book he publishes, I will be reaching for it as soon as physically and financially possible.
6. Christopher Paolini
Another fantastic fantasy author. After reading the entire Inheritance Cycle series, which I was and still am absolutely enthralled with, I knew I would be buying anything he published. His ability to create a completely new and original fantasy world, complete with elves, dwarves, magic, DRAGONS is just perfection.
I will buy all your books. Especially if they are more fantasy books.
7. Susan Ee
The last, but definitely NOT THE LEAST. She is the author behind the amazing Penryn and the End of Days trilogy. If you have not read this trilogy, drop everything and pick them up. Seriously. Do it now. She is great at writing a good gritty, dark and suspenseful post-apocalyptic novel. She pulled me right into this story and wouldn’t let me go, and when the series finally ended, I wanted to cry and ask: “why didn’t you make this only a 3 book series? WHYYYYYYYY?!”.
The moment I hear of the next book your publishing, I’ll be on it. My hawk eyes are set on YOU. (I promise I’m not a creep)
Tell me your fabulous thoughts, bookworms!
