MY REVIEW:

Hello bookworms and welcome back! Today I am going to be chatting with you about the last book in one of my favorite trilogies of the year… End of Days by Susan Ee! But before we continue, I have to point out that if you have not read the first two books, Angelfall and World After, you may not want to read this review. It’s going to be somewhat SPOILERY for you. So…

If you have not read any of the books yet, click here to see my review of Angelfall

If you have read Angelfall but not World After, click here to see my review of World After

And if you have read both, then continue reading this review!

Back to End of Days. This book was a phenomenal end to the series and I am gutted that it’s over. I want to see more of Penryn and Raffe! Susan Ee did not disappoint at all throughout this entire series. End of Days is packed full of action, romance and unbearable chemistry, crazy-epic fighting scenes and a conclusion that made my heart flutter. So without further delay, lets chat, shall we?

Let’s talk about the characters first. They were amazing, just as they were in Angelfall and World After. Penryn is our main protagonist and she is back with Raffe as they continue on their journey together, now in search of a doctor that can both help them in different ways. Penryn is as strong and loyal as ever. End of Days shows Penryn slowly discovering what it means to be a hero in the midst of a chaotic, disintegrating world. She sees herself as just a teenage girl whose goal is to take care of herself and her family. As usual, this is her driving force. But at the same time, she is fighting for all of humanity and as the novel progresses, we see her come to terms with this and it’s awesome.

Raffe is back at Penryn’s side, with his wretched demon wings still attached. He yearns to have his beautiful white wings back where they belong and to become accepted back into his world. We see him fighting the urges he so long had been suppressing. He’s attracted to Penryn but he knows it’s wrong. He thinks it’s wrong. There is so much chemistry between them throughout the entire novel that at times, I was slapping the book and yelling: JUST CONFESS THAT YOU ARE IN LOVE ALREADY, PLEASE!

The side characters were awesome, once again. Paige – such a sweetheart. We see her in this novel, fighting for her humanity. She’s not just a monster. She’s still the same girl she was before the angels mutated her. And she can control gross monsters with scorpion tails. She is a very important minor character that we see develop into a stronger person. Penryn’s mother is crazy, as per usual. But we realise that behind all her craziness, she’s a good mother. Not only is she so incredibly badass and can magically get away with anything and appear anywhere unharmed, she loves Penryn and Paige with all her heart and she takes all of the hard burdens upon herself and Penryn realises this too.

Beliel. I know I said I hated him in my last review, but I think my view has changed. Did anyone else cry in that moment with Beliel in the Pit? I finally realised where all his hatred and darkness had come from. My heart was actually aching for him. The Watchers as a whole are a great bunch. They’re a group of warriors who sounds just like an average group of teenage boys. When they did that beautiful burial for Beliel, I shed a few tears.
Uriel is a messed up angel indeed. Creating a fake apocalypse? What the hell dude? And did you really kill Gabriel? Dude. (Okay, that’s enough of my horribly non-professional language). I despised Uriel for the things he did. The angels go by so many rules, and yet here is this guy, creating all kinds of havoc and probably breaking a couple hundred rules in the process.

Now, let’s discuss the plot. The pacing was fantastic. I flew through it so incredibly fast, and there was no moment where the pace faltered or I found it being somewhat slow. This did not happen AT ALL. Taking a slight turn from Angelfall and World After, End of Days has a heroic vibe to it. Penryn has to decide to step up and band together everyone for the fight for their land. The scene where Penryn went into the Pit was awesome and meeting the Watchers was great. The battle scene at the end was the highlight. As I was reading, I could clearly picture myself watching this as a movie. It was the most action-packed, incredibly awesome, tension-filled part of the book. My heart was racing the entire time.

The ending. I was so overjoyed by the ending. I was dreading that the ending would disappoint me, but it didn’t. Not one bit. I was smiling like an idiot when I closed the book and I had the strongest urge to re-read it right then and there.

Susan Ee’s writing style was, as always, amazing. I don’t know how she did it, but I found myself literally racing through the book. I’d start reading it and an hour or two later, I was almost done. And before I knew it, it was over. Her writing is exhilarating.

Overall, you all need to pick up this series immediately. It’s incredible and if you skip out on it, I promise you, you are most likely missing out on something incredible.
